The Norwegian Refugee Council (NRC) is a non-governmental, humanitarian organization with 60 years of experience in helping to create a safer and more dignified life for refugees and internally displaced people. NRC advocates for the rights of displaced populations and offers assistance within the shelter, education, emergency food security, legal assistance, and water,sanitation and hygiene sectors.

The Norwegian Refugee Council has approximately 5000 committed and competent employees involved in projects across four continents. In addition, NRC runs one of the world’s largest standby rosters -NORCAP, with 650 professionals, ready to be deployed on 72 hours notice when a crisis occurs

NRC requires this consultancy position to be filled as soon as possible. As such, applications will be assessed and interviewed as received. The consultancy may be filled before the closing date depending on applications and interest. 

 

NRC Programmes in Jordan

Since 2012 NRC has been operational in Education, Youth, Shelter and ICLA (information, Counselling and Legal Assistance). 

 

Purpose of the Consultancy  

The overall purpose of the consultancy is to conduct 2 type of trainings (16 training days) on the following topics:

  • Launching and managing social initiatives (إطلاق المبادرات المجتمعية وإدارتها)
  • Standards and Principles of Social Work معايير ومبادئ العمل الاجتماعي 

 

Training Objectives

  • Training Topic 1: Launching and managing social initiatives (إطلاق المبادرات المجتمعية وإدارتها)
  • Understanding concepts, elements and characteristics of social initiatives and sustainable social initiatives
  • Recognize the differences between charitable work, volunteering and community responsibility
  • Understanding cycle of implementing social initiatives 
  • Practice designing sustainable community initiative with clear criteria, objective, plan, budget, and evaluation methodology
  • Understanding concepts of social integration initiatives
  • Monitoring and evaluation of community initiatives

     

  • Training Topic 2: Standards and Principles of Social Work معايير ومبادئ العمل الاجتماعي
  • Understanding concepts and basic skills of social work
  • Understanding main approaches in social work
  • Understanding social entrepreneurship concept
  • Recognize social worker basic interpersonal skills
  • Understanding ethics and values of social work 

 

Targeted group

  • 20-25 social worker, volunteers, and activist in the community in Mafraq in each training 

 

Planned schedule

  • Topic 1, Two training courses, 20-25 participant for each training, 4 days for each training 
  • Topic 2, Two training courses, 20-25 participant for each training, 4 days for each training 
  • Within September, timetable will be discussed with chosen trainer Location

Deliverables

NRC expects the consultant to achieve the following outputs during the contract period. Specific due dates will be finalised during the contract process.

  • A training agenda in English and Arabic will be presented by the consultant for approval before the activities are initiated.
  • The consultant will provide informal weekly updates to ICLA project coordinator
  • The consultant will submit the draft training materials in Arabic for review by ICLA project manager and project coordinator
  • On the basis of feedback and comments from the presentation of the final draft training material, the finalised materials will be submitted after 5 days.

Requirements

 

  • National Team Members: NRC national staff in Jordan will be available to manage logistic needs and organize the training
  • National trainers or training agencies have experience in providing such trainings   

 

Qualifications

The consultant must demonstrate the following qualifications:

  • Relevant university qualifications, preferably in a field related to social work. Master’s degree (or equivalent) preferred;
  • A minimum of four years of relevant professional experience
  • Demonstrated understanding of social work and social initiatives
  • Demonstrated expertise in eh design of training for different target audiences.
  • Ability to work with a group of diverse stakeholders and produce results;
  • Significant political, cultural and gender awareness, particularly in the Middle East context;
  • Fluency in Arabic language, both written and verbal.
  • Ability to conduct the trainings in Mafraq.
