Senior PSP Officer (New Business, LG)

ORGANIZATIONAL CONTEXT.
Direct supervision will be exercised by the Chief of Section (PSP Leadership Giving), who will provide guidance and advice. Collaboration within the wider PSP Team is essential to the success of UNHCR¿s PSP strategy and therefore the post holder must establish collaborative working relationships both internally with key staff across the organisation and externally with donors, volunteers and other key stakeholders.
S/he will liaise externally with corporate and foundation leaders and their representatives; suppliers consultants, agencies and freelance advisors; and internally with the wider PSP team, with special focus on the regional and national LG staff including National Partners to support the delivery of the LG PSP Strategy; the PSP Project support  Unit for e.g. proposals/budgets and reporting/expenditures; proposal writers, communication experts, field officers, program specialists, Bureaux/Desk staff and DRRM officers.

The incumbent will supervise international and support staff.

FUNCTIONAL STATEMENT

Accountability
- Corporate and/or foundation partnerships to mutual benefit are established.
- Innovative strategies for securing new private partnerships are developed.
- LG Network receives training, advice and tools necessary to successfully develop and implement new local/regional and international corporate and foundation partnerships.
- Relationships with key external contacts are developed to help support the New Business Strategy.
- A Global Strategy for recruiting key business influencers across sectors is developed and implemented.

Responsibility
- As delegated by the Chief of Section (PSP L.G.), lead the development of initiatives with corporates and foundations to: promote public awareness of refugees, displaced and UNHCR; obtain financial support for selected projects and programmes; secure in-kind donations of equipment, services related to the donor¿s core competencies, encourage employee giving and cause related marketing, and other partnership engagement as appropriate.
- Manage and supervise the New Business Development Unit in PSP LG.
- Identify and develop major national/regional and international new business opportunities and provide guidance to fundraisers in preparing tactical approach plans.
- Provide training, guidance and support across the LG network on new business approaches.
- Liaise with the LG network to coordinate approaches to new or dormant national and international corporations and foundations.
- Develop and implement new models of LG partnerships.
- Initiate and secure long-term mutually beneficial corporate and foundation partnerships from `cold¿ to agreed income targets.
- Develop compelling proposals and presentations for the LG network and prospective new partners that align with core business issues, leading meetings with a range of corporate and foundation contacts.
- Develop and lead engagement plans to reach senior decision makers at a range of prospects, utilising pro-bono and senior volunteers where appropriate.
- Negotiate national, international and global partnerships, including managing the contracting process and share best practices with the LG network.
- Create and implement a Global Strategy for soliciting corporate and foundation prospects for emergency funding.
- Work within the PSFR screening processes for LG partnerships.
- Co-lead on PSFR¿s strategy to position itself as the go to charity brand for the business community.
- Keep aware of the fundraising and business environment and proactively develop new opportunities for PSP, appropriately influencing the organisation to explore new models of partnership.
- Perform other related tasks as required.

Authority
- Lead the development of new relationships and partnerships with international corporates and foundations, leveraging their core competencies in a multi-year framework.
- Design of relevant training materials and implementation of a training programme for new business opportunities.

ESSENTIAL MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE REQUIRED
- Advanced University degree (post-graduate level) in Business Administration, Economics, Communications, International Relations, Finance, Marketing, Media/Journalism, Social Sciences or related field of study.
- Minimum 10 years (12 years with University degree) of relevant experience, including new business development, private partnership account management, communications/advocacy work or private sector fundraising in a non-profit, UN or international organization.
- All round experience of corporate and foundation partnerships fundraising techniques, including obtaining financial support for projects, securing in-kind donations, employee giving, consumer fundraising, cause related marketing and other forms of partnership engagement.
- Proven ability to negotiate and secure corporate and/or foundations partnerships for a value of USD 1,000,000 and above.
- Proven ability in understanding how to reconcile the needs of the organization with those of the private sector partner.
- Ability to manage a core group of assigned international corporation or foundation prospects by identifying, qualifying, cultivating, soliciting, and providing stewardship as appropriate to each donor prospect.
- Ability to explain complex issues to external donor prospects and present the organization and diverse operations in an appealing and concise manner.
- Understanding of challenges faced by field operations, problems of implementing programmes and constraints of negotiating with local authorities and persons of concern.
- Excellent computer skills (MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint essential).
- Excellent communication skills with strong interpersonal and negotiation skills.
- Excellent knowledge of English (written/oral/comprehension). Highly developed drafting ability in English.

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS & COMPETENCIES
- Experience in coordinating successful CRM and Licensing programmes highly desirable.
- Ability to organise and conduct trainings and presentation on corporate and foundation fundraising.
- Willingness to travel frequently.
- Exposure to UN system with particular focus on fundraising activities for humanitarian causes.
- Exposure to UNHCR specific field operations, training/learning activities.

- Seasoned professional whose expertise goes beyond the theoretical and technical knowledge Leadership Giving fundraising where s/he has led a successful fundraising team proving a long-term vision and strategic perspective.

- S/he will have had significant managerial experience as a member of the senior management team or similar in their previous employment.

- The incumbent will show discerning leadership, placing the best interests of UNHCR to the fore at all times. Demanding working conditions including travel that may often involve short deadlines can be expected.

- Exposure to field operations e.g. through field missions or short assignments, especially in the key thematic areas such as shelter, education, livelihoods, and gender-related issues, would be helpful. Such experience enhances credibility with donors.

- An understanding of UNHCR's operations and programs would be beneficial.

- Necessary inter-personal skills and the ability to develop, negotiate and manage important, high-value donor relationships. Current Situation:

In the current global context, new support for and deeper engagement in the refuge cause is essential.  Particularly, expanding private sector fundraising to broaden the donor base is imperative in times of ever-growing humanitarian needs and increased competition over scarce governmental resources.

Private Sector Partnerships Service (PSP) sits in UNHCR's Division of External Relations and is responsible for raising resources from both individual giving (general public) and leadership giving (corporations, foundations and High Net Worth Individuals) sources. In order to achieve the ambitious PSP objectives of bringing necessary new resources to the organization (USD 500 million/year by 2018), the Leadership Giving (LG) section develops and strengthens long-term partnerships with companies, foundations and high-net worth individuals.

As a senior member of the PSP team, this position will be responsible for achieving key results in the new business strategy, providing training and advice across the LG Network and building innovative strategies for securing and developing new private partnerships together with establishing corporate and/or foundation partnerships, helping to progressively increase the income to UNHCR from the private sector in a highly strategic market. Given the ambitious income targets over the next few years anyone who joins the team must be ready to hit the ground running. Working and Living Conditions:

Copenhagen is classified as a Category H duty station with all amenities and excellent infrastructure. 

Because of Denmark's northern location in Europe, the number of daylight hours varies significantly. During winter, the sun rises at about 08:00 and sets at about 15:30, whereas in summer the sun rises at about 03:30 and sets as late as 23:00.

Denmark is located in a temperate climate zone. Average daytime temperatures range from 2 °C (35.6 °F) in January to 20 °C (68 °F) in August. The average wind speed is 7.6 m/s, which explains why Denmark is one of the world's largest exporters of wind turbines. Rainy days are likely all year round, while snowfall happens once in a while during winter.

The UN City is located at one of Copenhagen's newest harbor side developments, and is just a 30 minute walk from the city centre. We are also close to Copenhagen's ferry terminal and only minutes away from the Copenhagen's main public transport system; with bus 26 located approximately 10 minutes away from the office and Nordhavn train station located approximately 800m from the office. Copenhagen is relatively safe, however as in any other big city you should watch out for pickpockets when using public transport, and pay attention to wallets, jewelry and purses when walking alone. Also be aware that some areas are not as safe as others. Additional Factors:
