1.         Organizational context

 

The post is located in the Regional Bureau for Arab Countries, Development Sector, which provides advisory services and manages the capacity building and technical assistance programs of the Organization for developing and least developed countries in the region through coordination with various sectors within the Organization and/or outsourcing work to external experts.

 

The incumbent is primarily responsible for supporting the design, implementation and monitoring of technical assistance programs and other project-based initiatives as well as support the financial administration of extra-budgetary resources, and carrying out other specialized activities to effectively support the work of the Bureau.

 

The incumbent works under the supervision of the Director of the Bureau.

 

2.         Duties and responsibilities

 

The incumbent will perform the following principal duties\:

 

(a)  Monitor specific aspects of project implementation, identify problems and propose actions to expedite project and service delivery. Analyze progress, identify and document significant project events, decisions or deviations, and record future development cooperation activities in the region;

 

(b)  Contribute to the development of new projects by selecting and summarizing background information, assessing the local context for the planning and administration of projects, and drafting segments of project proposals;

 

(c)  Establish and maintain contact with relevant internal and external stakeholders as directed, including Member States, intergovernmental agencies and public and private sector IP organizations;

 

(d)  Carry out research, prepare documentation and compile information in support of the development, coordination, monitoring and evaluation of projects and activities;

 

(e)   (e) support in the financial planning and administration of extra-budgetary resources for use in 

      technical assistance programs handled by the Bureau;

 

(f)   Collect data, produce and develop reports, statistics and summaries of information on activities of the Bureau, with a view to supporting effective business decisions; follow-up with team members to ensure information is up-to-date and accurate; correct inaccuracies and update relevant databases and systems.

 

(g)  Contribute to the preparation of reports for the Bureau including drafting, reviewing and revising sections or portions of project assessment documents, project and budget revisions, program performance evaluations, and the annual budget and work plan; 

 

(h)  Participate in missions or meetings, as assigned by his or her supervisor, provide information and support with respect to project management and procedures for monitoring and reporting, and propose activities for the Bureau’s program;

 

(i)   Perform other related duties as required.

 

3.         Requirements

 

Education

 

Essential\:

First-level university degree in economics, international relations, development studies. law or a related field.

 

Experience

 

Essential\:

At least three years’ relevant professional experience including experience obtained at the international level.

 

Project management experience.

 

            Desirable\:

Experience working in the field of IP, preferably IP for development.

 

Languages

 

            Essential\:

            Excellent level of written and spoken English and Arabic.

 

Desirable

Good knowledge of written and spoken French.

Knowledge of development cooperation policies and procedures, including those of donor countries/agencies.

 

Knowledge of the political, socioeconomic and legal systems of countries in the region, as well as understanding of the cultural background.
