The Norwegian Refugee Council (NRC) is a non-governmental, humanitarian organization with 60 years of experience in helping to create a safer and more dignified life for refugees and internally displaced people. NRC advocates for the rights of displaced populations and offers assistance within the camp management, shelter, education, food security, legal assistance, and water, sanitation and hygiene sectors.

The Norwegian Refugee Council has approximately 5000 committed and competent employees involved in projects across four continents. In addition, NRC runs one of the world’s largest standby rosters -NORCAP, with 650 professionals, ready to be deployed on 72 hours’ notice when a crisis occurs.

 NRC is looking for a Logistics Officer in our Area office in Maiduguri, Nigeria.
The purpose of the Logistics Officer is day to day implementation of the Logistics support functions portfolio.

NRC initiated country operations in Nigeria in June 2015, in order to respond to the critical and increasing needs in the country. NRC currently has a full team based in Maiduguri and a coordination office in Abuja. NRC is currently providing services across various sectors namely; Shelter and Non-Food Items (NFI); Water, Sanitation and Hygiene Promotion (WASH); Food Security; and Information, Counselling and Legal Assistance (ICLA) in order to address identified humanitarian needs.

The Logistics Officer reports to the Logistics Coordinator.

Job description

  • Ensure adherence with NRC policies, tools, handbooks and guidelines.
  • Implement delegated support function portfolio according to plan of action.
  • Prepare and develop status reports as required by management.
  • Ensure proper filing of documents.
  • Ensure NRC assets management system are in place and followed at field level.
  • Prepare Military Clearances for the delivery of goods to field locations as requested.
  • Conduct Fleet checks to ensure that all vehicles are properly registered and insured and that all basic equipment required as per Logistics requirements are in each vehicle.
  • Monitor the use of vehicles and generators by ensuring that log books for both are checked and signed regularly.

Qualifications

  • Experience from working as a Finance/Support Coordinator in a humanitarian/recovery context
  • Experience from working as a Logistics Officer in a humanitarian/recovery context
  • Previous experience from working in complex and volatile contexts
  • Documented results related to the position’s responsibilities
  • Some knowledge of English, both written and verbal
  • Office organization skills
  • Computer skills (Microsoft Office)
  • Good communication skills
  • Fluency in Hausa and Kanuri Languages is an asset
  • Knowledge of north-eastern Nigeria
  • High level of accuracy and efficiency in reporting

We offer

  • Commencement: August 2017.
  • Duration: 12 months.
  • Salary/benefits: According to NRC’s general directions.
  • Level: Grade 5 in NRC grade structure
  • Duty station: Maiduguri, with some travels. Travel outside Maiduguri is dependent on changing security conditions, especially for certain roads in the area.
