Organizational Setting

The Office for Public Information and Communication provides objective, accurate and timely information about the IAEA and nuclear developments that fosters public understanding of the IAEA's global roles. It also provides advice to the Director General on relations with the media and organizes press briefings. The Office coordinates the communication activities for the rest of the house and assists in the media aspects of major IAEA events and conferences.

The Media, Multimedia and Public Outreach Section has corporate responsibility for relations with the media and the public, as well as for producing audio and video materials to promote the IAEA’s activities.


Main Purpose

Under the supervision of the Head of the Media, Multimedia and Public Outreach Section, the Multimedia Officer– produces videos and other public outreach content. In doing so, she/he raises the public profile and the visibility of the IAEA, increases public and media awareness about its work and expands online audiences, contributing to explain with visual materials in plain language scientifically and technically complicated issues involving the IAEA .


Role

The Multimedia Officer is\: (i) a communicator who finds strong and important IAEA stories to inform media and the public about them; (ii) a script writer who succinctly tells the IAEA story in a way that is easy to understand for an external audience; (iii) a video producer and editor with filming skills, who develops visually compelling public outreach material; (iiii) a technical video specialist who oversees the functioning of the IAEA studio (iv) a supervisor of the multimedia assistant and a coordinator of video/audio consultants’ work.


Functions / Key Results Expected

  • Identify suitable topics for video stories about the IAEA and its work.
  • Write and edit video scripts and produce videos about IAEA issues and activities that are important to publicise externally.
  • Collect footage at headquarters and in the field to help maximise synergies and create communication packages; maintain and make the best use of the existing IAEA collection of footage, and occasionally film herself/himself.
  • Build contacts with media distribution networks and broadcasters and ensure strategic placement and dissemination of IAEA video and other multimedia material.
  • Oversee video recordings of senior officials’ statements and interviews as required.
  • Review and assess the quality and suitability of video productions to be published on IAEA communication channels and propose guidance and in-house standards on these matters as appropriate.
  • Oversee and promote the Agency’s YouTube account.

Qualifications, Experience and Language skills

  • University degree in communications, journalism, film academy or sciences. Advanced University degree is an asset.
  • At least 5 years of relevant working experience in developing, producing and editing multimedia packages, including at an international level.
  • Proven ability to produce videos that are accessible and understandable to the general public.
  • Demonstrated experience in filming and operating a video studio is desirable.
  • Excellent oral and written command of English. Knowledge of other official IAEA languages (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian and Spanish) is an asset.

Remuneration

The IAEA offers an attractive remuneration package including a tax-free annual net base salary starting at US $58583 (subject to mandatory deductions for pension contributions and health insurance), a variable post adjustment which currently amounts to US $ 25366, dependency benefits, rental subsidy, education grant, relocation and repatriation expenses; 6 weeks' annual vacation, home leave, pension plan and health insurance
