Organizational Setting

The Division of Energy Planning and Nuclear Information and Knowledge comprises the Planning and Economic Studies Section, Nuclear Knowledge Management Section and the Nuclear Information Section. The Division is responsible for strengthening capacities in energy and nuclear power planning, building capacities to manage nuclear knowledge and provide knowledge management services to interested member states, and to procure and provide printed and electronic information in the area of nuclear science and technology.

The Nuclear Knowledge Management Section assists Member States by developing methodology and guidance documents in nuclear knowledge management; implementing KM initiatives; facilitating sustainable education, training and information exchange in nuclear science and technology; and assisting Member States in maintaining and preserving nuclear knowledge.


Main Purpose

Reporting to the Director of NEPIK, the Section Head plans and prepares the programme and budget for the Subprogramme 1.3.3. and ensures the implementation of nuclear knowledge management related activities including education, training, succession planning, preservation of knowledge, and knowledge transfer in the IAEA and Member States.



Role

The Section Head is\: (1) a manager and team leader to ensure that programmes and projects are developed and implemented in the most efficient and effective manner in line with quality management standards and the results based approach; (2) an advisor to the Director of NEPIK on programmatic issues related to nuclear knowledge management; and (3) an analyst of mechanisms to identify ways to assist Member States.



Functions / Key Results Expected

 

  • Plan, manage and implement activities related to the nuclear knowledge management activities in the IAEA including education, training, succession planning, preservation of knowledge and knowledge transfer.
  • Develop, maintain and improve the terminological knowledge base of Nuclear Taxonomies and Knowledge maps
  • Act as a Scientific Secretary for conferences, advisory group meetings, symposia, seminars, workshops and other technical meetings related to nuclear knowledge management
  • Develop and establish collaborative mechanisms (networks) to maintain and preserve nuclear knowledge and information in specific areas of nuclear science and technology
  • Provide support and technical guidance for TC related activities on nuclear knowledge management, including project development, participation in training courses and workshops and Assist Visits on nuclear knowledge management and preparation of reports
  • Develop new guidelines and other technical documents for the adequate representation of nuclear knowledge management for use in the IAEA and in interested Member States.

Qualifications, Experience and Language skills

 

  • Master's Degree - Advanced university degree in nuclear science, nuclear engineering or related technical field.
  • At least 10 years of relevant working experience in nuclear industry or research and development including five years involvement in activities related to education, training or knowledge transfer.
  • Proven experience in managing large teams and projects in an international environment, notably capacity building, leading and developing cohesive teams, determining clear goals, roles and responsibilities and providing feedback on performance, and encouraging staff development.
  • Familiarity with the current issues in nuclear knowledge management and previous involvement in international projects, networks, etc. is an important advantage,
  • Excellent oral and written command of English. Knowledge of other official IAEA languages (Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Russian and Spanish) is an asset.

Remuneration

The IAEA offers an attractive remuneration package including a tax-free annual net base salary starting at US $84721 (subject to mandatory deductions for pension contributions and health insurance), a variable post adjustment which currently amounts to US $ 29991, dependency benefits, rental subsidy, education grant, relocation and repatriation expenses; 6 weeks' annual vacation, home leave, pension plan and health insurance
