Peace and Security Centre

The UNOPS Peace and Security Centre (PSC) is a principal service provider in the field of mine action with the United Nations Mine Action Service (UNMAS), UNDP, UNICEF, Governments of mine-affected countries and other mine action partners. The Centre is responsible to administer, provide support and oversight of the day-to-day management of the Project Field offices, both according to the client requirements and in line with UNOPS rules and regulations.
It is headed by the Centre Director who has the overall authority and accountability for the performance of the Peace and Security Centre on behalf of its clients.

The UN Mine Action Service (UNMAS) supports the government Directorate of Mine Action Coordination (DMAC) in planning, managing and oversees of all mine action activities in Afghanistan.  It provides technical support to all partners and ensures the proper integration of mine action into wider humanitarian assistance and developmental programmes.

With more than 10 years of experience in the country, the UNOPS Afghanistan office supports national reconstruction and development efforts by providing projects with goods and services - from stand-alone, one-off solutions to long-term management and capacity development support.  Based in Kabul, UNOPS in Afghanistan has sub-offices in every region of the country. The team implements projects in support of the Afghanistan National Development Strategy, in a wide range of sectors including infrastructure, education, environment and agriculture, and governance and rule of law.

Functional Responsibilities

  • Drive vehicle for authorized personnel, staff and/or visitors as required for day-to-day businessaround the city or on longer journeys around the country. Undertake field trip as assigned.
  • Deliver and receive UNMAS letters to designated locations and vice versa.
  • Pick and drop of UNMAS personal from Air port based on official requests.
  • Makes sure the vehicle is fully drivable and reports the damages as occurs.
  • Pre-check the vehicle before operating on daily bases.
  • Ensure vehicles are kept well-fuelled in case of emergency or unforeseen events.
  • Ensure all vehicles parked in UNOPS compound face towards the gate.
  • Responsible for ensuring UNOPS vehicle carries logbooks (both fuel and journey description),ensure logbooks are properly maintained/completed, and ensure that it is signed off by thepassenger on a daily basis. Logs official trips, daily mileage, gas consumption, oil changes,greasing, etc.
  • Ensure that all necessary vehicle related documents are in place.
  • Ensure vehicle is properly equipped up to UN requirements.
  • Other related activities assigned by supervisor.

Education/Experience/Language requirements

Education:
  • Secondary school diploma (High school or equivalent) is required 
  • Bachelor degree or equivalent is an asset
Experience:
  • At least 2 years of driving experience of armored vehicle, preferably with UN or international organizations
  • At least 2 years of experience in vehicle maintenance is required 
  • A valid driving license is required
  • Experience driving in bad weather conditions and off-road is required 
  • Experience and  knowledge of Afghanistan roads and traffic rules is required  
  • Proven knowledge of driving rules and regulations is required 
  • Relevant experience with UN or International Organizations in Afghanistan is desired 
  • Excellent knowledge of traffic routes in Afghanistan is desired 
Languages:
  • Intermediate in Dari and Phastu (Speaking, reading and writing) is required
  • Basics in English (Speaking,reading and writing) is desired 

Contract type, level and duration

Contract type: Local Individual Agreement (LICA)
Contract level: LICA2
Contract duration: 6 months with possibility of extension subject to satisfactory performance and funds availability
