Unit Private Sector Facility Closing date 29 August 2017 Reporting to Director of Private Sector Facility Vacancy code GCF/Recruit/204 The Green Climate Fund (“the Fund”) is a new multilateral fund created to make a significant and ambitious contribution to the global efforts towards attaining the goals set by the international community to combat climate change.

The Fund will contribute to the achievement of the ultimate objective of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC). In the context of sustainable development, the Fund will promote the paradigm shift towards low-emission and climate-resilient development pathways by providing support to developing countries to limit or reduce their greenhouse gas emissions and to adapt to the impacts of climate change, considering the needs of those developing countries particularly vulnerable to the adverse effects of climate change. The Fund will pursue a country-driven approach in its operations. The Fund is governed by a Board, composed of an equal representation of developed and developing countries; the Board oversees the operation of all relevant components of the Fund. The Fund is serviced by an independent Secretariat, which is accountable to the Board and headed by an Executive Director. The Secretariat, which is accountable to the Board, is responsible for the day-to-day management of the Fund, and is located at the Fund’s headquarters in Songdo, Incheon City, in the Republic of Korea. The Fund is seeking an exceptional person who will take up the challenge of joining a high-performing organization at the leading edge of the financing of climate action in developing countries. Position description

The Lead Private Equity Funds Specialist (Senior Manager of Special Projects) will contribute to deepening private equity funds expertise within PSF and the Secretariat’s increasingly demanding requirements on working with direct access local private sector actors in the developing world. In addition, he or she will be the lead task manager of PSF projects on venture capital and debt.

Duties and responsibilitiesThe ideal candidate has considerable hands on experience in private equity funds, at a senior level, in various businesses and functions, and in multiple countries in GCF’s regions; and in this context, he or she is expected to:

• Be responsible for the overall direction, business strategy, execution of the GCF private equity funds

and other vehicles using a fund’s structure;

• Be responsible for leading the negotiations, structuring, investment and exits of the private equity

funds and other fund programs at GCF;

• Take the lead and be responsible of periodic requests for proposals (RFPs) and other modalities of deal

sourcing and direct access private sector- and work with other colleagues in implementing the RFPs

successfully ;

• Establish and maintain positive relationships within the Secretariat, with NDAs, AEs, key private sector

players in Developing Countries and globally to generate on-going strong projects and programs that

meets GCF’s investment framework- focusing on climate impacts and paradigm shift ;

• Responsible for managing complex and multi stakeholder relationships at the local and global stage;

and

• Responsible for co-creating and managing large thought leadership networks for GCF.

Expected experience and qualifications*

• A Bacherlor’s degree in Business or Engineering and a Masters in Business Administration or higher

qualification;

• Minimum 15 years of fund structuring expertise such as private equity, venture capital, special

situation, mezzanine, listed and other investment vehicles using a fund’s approach;

• Strong track record in sourcing, structuring and managing the funds to exit. The candidate needs to

show a proven deal sheet of successful negotiations, closure and exit of private equity funds in least

developed countries and Small Island Developing States and other climate fragile countries;

• Proven track record of managing complex and multi stakeholder relationships at the global stage; and

demonstrated ability to manage key relationships within and outside GCF;

• Strong knowledge in negotiating deal term sheets, ideal private equity terms, private placement

memorandums, limited partnership documents, regulatory requirements, compliance and excellent

business acumen of doing business in developing countries;

• Strong supervisory skills and track record in managing careers of junior staff;

• Possess a high level of integrity, professionalism and client management skills (internally and

externally);

• Excellent communication and teamwork skills;

• Willingness and ability to travel as needed; and

• Excellent written and oral communication skills in English are essential for this position; knowledge of

another UN language an advantage.
