In order to support UNICEF’s continued response to priorities for child protection in emergencies in Mali for the Monitoring and Reporting Mechanism (MRM), Children Affected by Armed Conflict (CAAC), disarmament, demobilization, and reintegration (DDR), as well as other child protection programmatic needs, UNICEF wishes to recruit a Child Protection Specialist with a diverse expertise in child protection in emergencies. Under the direct supervision of the UNICEF Chief of Protection, the CP Specialist is expected to work in close collaboration with MINUSMA and ICRC, among others within and outside of the UN system.

 

How can you make a difference

  • In close collaboration with the MINUSMA Child Protection Section, co-chair meetings of the MRM Technical Working Group and follow-up on recommended actions, draft MRM reporting requirements and manage the MRM database.
  • Conduct trainings and capacity building of UNICEF and other partners on MRM and UNICEF Guidance on Protection in Emergencies.
  • Work closely with the Protection, Education and Health clusters, and the Child Protection and GBV sub-clusters, to coordinate the gathering, analysis and safe, confidential and ethical storage, sharing, and use of GBV- and MRM-related information by NGO and other partners.
  • Contribute to UNICEF’s advocacy and awareness raising on child protection and children’s rights, as it relates to the MRM and GBViE.
  • Work closely with the UNICEF West and Central Africa Regional Office (WCARO) and UNICEF country offices in Burkina Faso, Mauritania and Niger, to strengthen sub-regional MRM efforts, particularly related to recruitment and DDR of children associated with armed forces and armed groups.
  • Liaise closely with the MRM Specialists at UNICEF West and Central Africa Regional Office (WCARO), UNICEF HQ, the Office of the SRSG CAAC, and the DPKO Child Protection Focal Point on the MRM in Mali.

 

Qualifications of successful candidate

  • Advanced university degree in the social sciences, social work, public health or other relevant field.

    *First university degree with additional two-years of relevant work experience is acceptable in lieu of an advanced university degree.

  •  Five years of professional work experience at national and international levels in child protection, including child protection in emergencies is required.
  • Previous professional experience in human rights and/or child rights monitoring and reporting is required. 
  • Advanced technical knowledge of the MRM is required 
  • Advanced technical knowledge of GBViE and MARA will be an asset.
  • Strong analytical and communication skills (both written and oral) is required. 
  • Fluency in French and English is required.
  • Knowledge of the Malian context will be an asset.
