PURPOSE OF THE POSITION
The Communications Group (COM) forms an integral part of the Director's Office and is responsible for the presentation of a homogeneous image of all aspects of IARC work to the scientific community, the media, and the general public, as well as providing a service to the research Groups in all matters related to information.
Under the supervision of the English Language Editor in the COM Group and the Head of the WHO/IARC Classification of Tumours Group (WCT) at IARC, the incumbent works in close cooperation with pathologists to perform layout of the WHO Blue Books and provides other design and layout support to the COM and WCT Groups as per their instructions.
The objective of the WHO Blue Books programme is to publish the WHO Classification of Tumours series (WHO Blue Books), which are the international standard of histopathological and genetic classification of human neoplasms.

DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES
The key duties of the incumbent are to\:
1. Perform layout work to produce the WHO Blue Books. Specific tasks include the following\:
⢠Prepare the draft layout using desktop publishing software (such as InDesign and Photoshop).
⢠Design the cover of the publication.
⢠Ensure the quality of the figures.
⢠Redraw or improve submitted charts and diagrams according to instructions.
⢠Revise the layout as needed, working closely with pathologists (both within and outside IARC).
⢠Incorporate corrections to the text and figures.
⢠Finalize the layout by following instructions from the WCT Group Head.
⢠Prepare the final layout files for printing, liaising with the printer if necessary.
⢠Prepare files for dissemination in electronic format.
⢠Contribute to ensuring the quality of the final product by applying sound production values.
2. Support the WHO Blue Books programme in the development of related materials. Specific tasks include the following\:
⢠Perform the design and layout of promotional materials related to the dissemination of the WHO Blue Books in print and electronic format.
⢠Assist with the preparation of images for use in WHO Blue Books.
⢠In liaison with COM Web services, help to improve the graphical content and design of the WHO Blue Books website by preparing banners, infographics, and other visual materials for the website.
3. Document processes within the production workflow; prepare and continuously update procedures documents (SOPs).
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Education
Essential\:
⢠Graduation from secondary school (DUT, BTS or equivalent) or equivalent school and specialized training in fields relevant to the position (e.g. design, publishing).
⢠Training in page-layout software such as InDesign.
⢠Training in word processing and related office functions.
Desirable\:
⢠Certification or degree in the field of design or publishing.
⢠Training in xml-based publishing software such as eXtyles and Typefi.
Experience
At least four years' experience of design and layout of large technical publications using specialized desktop publishing packages.
Skills
Essential\:
⢠Good knowledge and competency in the following IT tools\: MS Office suite and desktop publishing software packages such as InDesign and Photoshop.
⢠Excellent administrative, organizational, and time-management skills.

Le Groupe Communication (COM) fait partie intégrante du Bureau du Directeur. DESCRIPTION DES FONCTIONS
Le titulaire effectue les tâches clés suivantes \:
1. Réaliser la mise en page des WHO Blue Books. Les tâches spécifiques sont les suivantes \:
⢠Mise en page préliminaire à lâaide de logiciels de PAO (tels que InDesign et Photoshop).
⢠Conception de la couverture de la publication.
⢠Vérification de la qualité des figures.
⢠Reprise ou amélioration des graphiques et diagrammes soumis conformément aux instructions.
⢠Reprise de la mise en page si besoin, en étroite collaboration avec les pathologistes (en interne ou extérieurs au CIRC).
⢠Intégration des corrections aux textes et aux figures.
⢠Finalisation de la mise en page conformément aux instructions du Chef du Groupe WCT.
⢠Préparation des fichiers finalisés pour lâimpression, en liaison avec lâimprimeur si nécessaire.
⢠Préparation des fichiers pour leur diffusion au format électronique.
⢠Contribution au contrôle-qualité du produit final par lâapplication de critères de production éprouvés.
2. Apporter lâappui nécessaire au programme des WHO Blue Books pour le développement de la documentation sây rapportant. Les tâches spécifiques sont les suivantes \:
⢠Réalisation de la conception et de la mise en page du matériel promotionnel pour la diffusion des WHO Blue Books aux formats papier et électronique.
⢠Aide à la préparation des images à intégrer aux WHO Blue Books.
⢠En collaboration avec le service Web, dans le Groupe COM, aide à lâamélioration du contenu graphique et de la conception du site web des WHO Blue Books par la préparation de bannières, infographies, et autres éléments visuels pour le site web.
3. Documenter les processus du flux de travail de la production ; préparer et actualiser continuellement les procédures.
QUALIFICATIONS REQUISES
Formation
Essentiel \:
⢠Etudes secondaires sanctionnées par un diplôme (DUT, BTS ou équivalent) ou formation scolaire et spécialisée équivalente dans des domaines pertinents pour ce poste (conception, publication).
⢠Formation dans un logiciel de mise en page comme InDesign.
⢠Formation dans le traitement de texte et les fonctions bureautiques associées.
Souhaitable \:
⢠Certificat ou diplôme en conception ou publication.
⢠Formation à des logiciels de mise en page comme eXtyles et Typefi.
Expérience
Au moins 4 ans dâexpérience dans la conception et la mise en page de publications techniques de grand volume à lâaide de progiciels de PAO spécialisés.
