Introduction

Legal adviser in the Director-General Unit (DG), Legal Service (LS), Operational Section (OO).

You will join the Legal Service, which, reporting to the Director-General, provides legal support for the execution of CERN's mission within the applicable legal framework.

Functions

As a Legal Adviser in the Legal Service, you will perform your duties under the supervision of the Head of the Legal Service's Operational Section.

Working with the Legal Service team and with scientists, engineers and other colleagues across the Organization, you will:

  • Draft, review and follow up scientific collaboration agreements and memoranda of understanding, including  license agreements, EU grant and consortium agreements, as well as non-disclosure agreements;
  • Provide legal advice on questions related to media and communications and other outreach media, including on the use of CERN's name and logo.

Qualification required

Master's degree in the field of private law, or equivalent; complementary training in international institutional law would be an advantage.

Experience and competencies

 The experience required for this post is:

  • Demonstrated extensive experience in practising contract and IP law preferably in the establishment of scientific or technological collaborations, acquired in an international environment;
  • Experience in preparing EU grant and consortium agreements would be an advantage.

The technical competencies required for this post are:

  • Legal drafting;
  • Knowledge of private law;
  • Knowledge of intellectual property law.

The behavioural competencies required for this post are:

  • Communicating effectively: expressing opinions, ideas and suggestions with conviction and in a logical/structured manner; keeping to the point; demonstrating a pro-active approach to resolving differences; addressing issues of conflict constructively.

  • Managing self: working well autonomously; taking on activities and tasks without prompting.

The language competencies required are:

  • Excellent spoken and written English, including demonstrated drafting skills. Fluency in French would be an advantage. Otherwise a willingness to acquire a working knowledge of French rapidly.
