Under the direct supervision of the Head of Reporting and Political Analysis and in co-operation with the other political analysts, reporting officers and trend analysis advisers, the incumbent will provide policy advice on the implementation of the Mission's mandate and on the follow-ups of political issues in general, and those related to ceasefire mediation and management in particular.

Job description

1. Drafting speeches, statements, talking points and correspondence, as well as relevant background, for the Chief Monitor, and attending and reporting on these meetings as requested;
2. Providing the Head of Reporting and Political Analysis and, through him/her, the Chief Monitor, with expert, advisory, material and technical support;
3. Reviewing and contributing to the Mission's regular and occasional reports, ensuring that material submitted for clearance is consistent with the aims and tasks enumerated in the Mission's mandate;
4. Establishing and maintaining contact with local, regional and national authorities, and civil society organizations;
5. Co-operating with representatives of the United Nations, the Council of Europe and other actors in the international community, including in the Trilateral Contact Group and the Joint Centre for Control and Co-ordination;
6. Reviewing and contributing operational instructions and liaising with the SMM's Operations Unit to help ensure Monitoring Teams receive feedback on reports and other aspects of mandate implementation;
7. Performing other duties and assignments as required, such as replacing other Political Analysts during their absence.

Qualifications

• University education in international studies, public policy, political science or law or related fields
• Diplomatic experience or experience working in political affairs with international organizations or governments
• Minimum six years of professional experience in international relations, within international organizations, political parties, legislatures or academia/think-tanks;
• Significant prior experience in relevant fields, such as political, security and ceasefire-related issues, preferably in an international environment or within operational missions;
• Professional fluency in the English language and ability to analyse and communicate clearly and concisely;
• Ability to operate computer Windows applications, including word processing and e-mail;
