The Opportunity

The Plan International Liaison Office to the UN Headquarters seeks to promote and enhance children’s rights by strategically engaging with the UN system, Member States, and the international community in New York.

As the Policy and Advocacy Officer you will be focusing on the areas of gender based violence and economic exclusion of girls and young women.

Your responsibilities will include developing national advocacy strategies and training materials for the delivery of trainings in focus countries with partners in country.

You will develop a reference document on strategic engagement on the High Level Political Forum (HLPF), including guidelines and advocacy strategies for engaging in government/alternative reporting for the HLPF on the issues of girls’ and young women’s economic exclusion and gender based violence.

You will map opportunities and develop an action plan and influencing strategy to address economic exclusion and gender based violence of girls and young women targeted toward UN bodies, Permanent Missions, and institutions.

As well as producing ongoing progress reports, you will meet regularly with Plan International Country Offices and other partners to coordinate activity and to contribute to engagement plans.

The Person

To succeed in this varied role, you must have experience working on economic empowerment, gender based violence, children’s’ rights and gender equality at a global level within an NGO, UN agency, or government department.

You should also have a demonstrated strong understanding of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and its related processes, including the HLPF.

With proven experience of producing high quality evidence based policy positions and briefings you will have developed advocacy strategies on related topics in a national and/or international context using a variety of advocacy approaches, policy analysis and positioning.

Experience of external representation and effective relationship building at a senior level and a consultative, collaborative approach will be essential.

Salary: $60,000 - $65,000

Reports to: Head of Office and UN Representative
