STANDARD MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: University degree in Political Science, International Development, Development Economics, Marketing, Communications or other relevant field.
Language: Fluency (level C) in English language. Intermediate knowledge (level B) of a second official UN language: Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian, Spanish, and/or WFP’s working language, Portuguese.

ORGANIZATIONAL CONTEXT

This Job reports to to the Senior Private Sector Partnerships Officer. They work independently, using technical knowledge and experience to analyse data, provide solutions to problems, and identify opportunities for fundraising and process improvements.

JOB PURPOSE

The Private Partnerships Division (PGP) division is undergoing an exciting transformation and is looking for a motivated individual to join as a crucial part of the team. The private sector is uniquely qualified to play a leadership role in ending hunger. Some of the largest and most respected brands and companies in the world – such as MasterCard, Royal DSM, Facebook, Google and many others – are helping achieve zero hunger by enabling WFP to strengthen operations, reach more people, fund lifesaving programs and build public support. They choose to partner with WFP because of WFP’s reach, scale and track record to create innovative partnerships that leverage their unique strengths and create lasting impact.

WFP is investing in significantly growing its work with the private sector (including with corporates, Foundations and individual giving).

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES (not all-inclusive)

  1. Lead the implementation of the work plan for assigned area by overseeing and delivering activities that identify, develop and maintain private sector partnerships to raise funds in support of WFP strategic priorities.
  2. Manage a portfolio of partnerships, soliciting contributions, providing on-going donor stewardship, providing forecasting and assessing results, in order to maximise resources raised for WFP in line with internal policies and external regulations.
  3. Provide advice to technical units, regional bureaux and country offices in order to assist them to effectively mobilise private sector resources.
  4. Prepare proposals and sales presentations in order to effectively “sell and market” WFP to private sector prospects.
  5. Coordinate and conduct prospect research to identify new private sector entities that can help achieve WFP’s strategic objectives, and manage these opportunities effectively in order to increase positive outcomes.
  6. Conduct negotiations for contributions and partnership agreements, in line with internal policies and external regulations, in order to reach advantageous outcomes for WFP.
  7. Manage junior officers to ensure appropriate development and enable high performance.
  8. Coordinate and prepare accurate reports on internal and external data, that enable informed decision-making and action planning by senior stakeholders, and provide consistent information to donors on use of funds.
  9. Analyse data, identify trends and/or issues and propose solutions to problems, and ideas to inform the development of new strategies to better secure and steward private sector donors by channel (individuals, corporate, foundation, NGO).
  10. Represent WFP at international meetings in such a way that advances the private sector partnership strategy and objectives, and builds support for WFP activities.
  11. Work in collaboration with other WFP units to align activities and ensure that proposed partnerships support the corporate strategic objectives and provide value.
  12. Contribute to preparedness actions, providing technical recommendations and guidance and monitoring the management of risks.
  13. Other as required.

OTHER SPECIFIC JOB REQUIREMENTS

  • Minimum 5 years of experience in Private Sector fundraising or areas related corporate social responsibility, marketing, communications or sales.
  • Fund raising experience with proven ability to individually raise equivalent to US$ 500,000 with new partners.
  • Existing network of Corporate (Senior / C-suite level) contacts, preferably in sectors relevant to Food/Nutrition, Supply Chain, Technology etc
  • Experience in marketing and sales and proven negotiation skills

DESIRED EXPERIENCES FOR ENTRY INTO THE ROLE

  • Has fundraising experience in United States.
  • Has gained experience in Private Partnerships management and applies this to all activities
  • Has provided support in leading projects and input into function policies
