Purpose of the post

Contribute to understanding perception of the organization amongst external and internal stakeholders by project managing and developing a range of market research activities. Support the field in understanding perceptions in their contexts by advising and supporting on research initiatives in Delegations. Work together with counterparts in the Marketing team to link results directly to campaign activity and communication products.

Main duties and responsibilities

The market research advisor reports to the head of the social marketing unit.

Contribution to market research projects and campaign development

  • Coordinate a range of existing internal and external research projects such as the ICRC Staff Barometer, opinion polls on a range of topics related to International Humanitarian Law (IHL), public perception surveys in field delegations.
  • Coordinate the use of multiple data sources to turn data into insights, and foster an evidence-based approach to take informed decisions and to guide initiatives and strategies.
  • Develop innovative and cost effective approaches to better understand the impacts of ICRC campaign and communication activity in order for the communication and marketing teams to continuously improve approaches and products.
  • Develop innovative and cost effective approaches to test campaign and communication products as part of the content development process.
  • Work closely with a network of data professionals across the ICRC to optimize internal and external data as a source of substance for key institutional campaign and communication activities, such as Health Care in Danger (HCiD) campaign to raise awareness and understanding of the impacts of attacks on health care facilities, the International Humanitarian Law Campaign to raise awareness of the importance of compliance with the ‘rules of war’.

    General

  • In coordination with the Head of Unit (CIM/CORP/MARK), support the development of the budget and monitor spending and allocation of business resources within the allocated budget.
  • Supervise interns as required.
  • Prepare and participate in internal or external coordination meetings, working groups and/or Steering Committees on behalf of MARK as required

Education and experience required

  • University degree in social sciences, business marketing/market research, data analytics / sciences.
  • Good knowledge/experience of market research techniques and models, digital and online research trends such as crowd sourcing and working knowledge of data analytics.
  • Professional experience in translating research results into substance or content for targeted communication/brand campaigns and identity issues highly desirable.
  • Experience working for a humanitarian organisation desirable.
  • Knowledge of or experience in the Red Cross / Red Crescent Movement desirable.

Desired profile and skills

  • High level of written and oral communication skills (English and French an asset).
  • Good knowledge of relevant standard computer software and applications (SQL, R, SPSS, Python, etc).
  • Basic knowledge of Business intelligence tools (Tableau) an asset
  • Excellent sense of organisation, responsibilities and priorities.
  • Ability to work with a high level of autonomy, and also to ensure consultation with a diverse range of stakeholders.
