1.      Organizational Context

 

a.    Organizational Setting

 

The position is located in the Printing Plant within the WIPO Conference and General Services Division.

The Printing Plant delivers quality, cost-effective, multi-media printing and enveloping services in a timely manner to support the work of WIPO and its stakeholders. This service includes official and legal documents, publications, conference and event-related materials, certificates, leaflets, and other materials.

 

b.    Purpose Statement

 

The incumbent is part of a polyvalent team, responsible for producing a variety of printed materials on the basis of print job specifications and for setting up, operating, adjusting, and maintaining the printing equipment to ensure that it functions properly.

 

c.    Reporting Lines

 

The incumbent works under the supervision of the Printing Plant Coordinator.

 

2.      Duties and Responsibilities

 

The incumbent will perform the following principal duties\:

 

a.   Maintain overview of incoming printing requests, ensure job specifications are clear; and process job according to priorities to achieve best possible output and to meet deadlines; prepare the final print proof.

 

b.   Set up assigned equipment in accordance with specifications and run product. Check printed materials for quality, finishing and other production factors.

 

c.   Monitor and maintain printing equipment to ensure the printed products comply with the correct printing specifications. Make adjustments to ink distribution, paper size etc.

 

d.   Bind and finish products in compliance with the job requests, including folding, cutting, spiral and coil binding, perforating, stitching, laminating, and exact square binding.

 

e.   Perform daily maintenance and report any issues; troubleshoot stoppages and breakdown to minimize downtime; in case of persistent malfunctioning initiate repairs of printing equipment; keep abreast of new maintenance and operation techniques.

 

f.    Complete and maintain necessary records and inventory levels for all printing requests.

 

g.   Monitor stocks of materials such as paper and ink in order to maintain supplies during equipment operation.

 

h.   Perform other related duties as required.

 

 

3.      Requirements

 

 

Education (Essential)

Completed secondary education.

 

Education (Desirable)

Technical qualification in printing or digital print production.

 

Experience (Essential)

At least three years' experience in the field of printing and operating finishing machines.
Experience running and maintaining digital printing and graphic design tools and equipment.
Experience using prepress systems.

 

Experience (Desirable)

Experience using graphic design software, such as Indesign or Photoshop.

 

Language (Essential)

Excellent knowledge of English or French and good knowledge of the other language.

 

Language (Desirable)

Knowledge of other official UN languages.
