OBJECTIVES OF THE PROGRAMME

The Department of Communications (DCO) objectives are to\:--> ensure timely production and dissemination of high quality public information on longstanding and emerging public health issues through various platforms (print, web, broadcast, social media etc) and in multiple languages; --> define and promote a consistent corporate identity for WHO internally and externally; --> create a 21st century "culture of communications" at WHO by strengthening capacity at every level;--> contribute to managing WHO's reputation by monitoring public opinion and concerns, and responding to them strategically; andlead the strategic communications response to epidemics and pandemics, public health emergencies and for the health aspects of humanitarian crises.

DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES

--> Together with the Communications Officer (Video), maintain and support the infrastructure needed to produce multimedia news and communications content and products such as news interviews, video statements, audio files, photo stories, animated presentations, short videos, b-roll, podcasts and video clips.--> Provide services for routine and emergency broadcasts, press conferences including virtual press conferences and produce recorded video and audio clips.--> Ensure that audio-visual infrastructure is available to distribute audio-visual content is broadcast news and other channels including web-streaming--> Maintain WHO television and radio studios in good working order, manage movable and immovable assets and ensure workflow is efficient and optimized to meet deadlines and targets --> Provide support when needed to broadcasts media and photographers covering WHO news and events. --> Provide direct audio-visual services support for corporate priorities including the direct involvement of the Director-General.-->Maintain a photo and video library and further develop distribution channels online for the material.--> Help maintain the departmental database of photographers, video camerapersons and audio-visual production companies for outsourcing work when needed and provide supervision when they are contracted.--> Identify future trends in broadcast audio-visual equipment and production techniques in order for the DCO to able to produce leading cutting edge, creative and dynamic content.--> Contribute to communications surge capacity work as part of WHO emergency communications teams as needed during humanitarian or public health emergencies and be deployed to the field as needed. REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Education

Essential\: University degree in (or equivalent formal qualification) multimedia, audio-visual technology, communications, film production or related field.
Desirable\:

Experience

Essential\: At least 5 years' experience essential in the audio-visual communications field with proven experience in providing audio-visual services for a large international organization. Experience in audio-visual work guring emergencies and/or humanitarian crises. Established contacts and networking with videographers, multimedia producers and distributors.

Excellent communications, networking and interpersonal skills Proven skills in designing and maintaining audio visual infrastructures, audio visual recording and post-production. Knowledge of modern multimedia news and feature deliveryKnowledge of social media and ability to produce content for social mediaUnderstanding of latest AV technology and software Ability to organize multiple strands of work and work under pressure to deadlines Creative thinking and high degree of visual intelligenceAbility to prioritize, anticipate and propose AV solutions to communications challengesAttention to detail, flexibility and creativity Ability to use electronic databases and other work flow management tools and platformsAbility to work with multiple interdisciplinary teams Good cross-cultural skills Excellent command of English with skills in at least one other UN language. REMUNERATION

WHO salaries for staff in the Professional category are calculated in US dollars. The remuneration for the above position comprises an annual base salary starting at USD 58,583 (subject to mandatory deductions for pension contributions and health insurance, as applicable), a variable post adjustment, which reflects the cost of living in a particular duty station, and currently amounts to USD 3954 per month for the duty station indicated above. Other benefits include 30 days of annual leave, allowances for dependent family members, home leave, and an education grant for dependent children.
