Background information - IPMG

UNOPS strategic focus places increased emphasis on national capacity development and sustainable approaches to project management, procurement and infrastructure services.  A key objective is to be recognized as an organization that delivers world-class infrastructure and project management, which is both economically and socially sustainable, even in the most challenging environments. To achieve this goal, UNOPS has established the Infrastructure and Project Management Group (IPMG).

Within UNOPS, IPMG’s objectives are to serve the organization’s personnel and partners by broadening their infrastructure and project management capabilities, while disseminating best-practices in both of these areas. Through this work, the group helps facilitate the successful delivery of programmes and projects around the world.

Background Information - Job-specific

As part of the IPMG’s role to support best practices in Infrastructure and Project Management, the IPMG Programme Support Unit organizes and manages annually the award process for the Project of Year, on behalf of IPMG Director. The UNOPS Project of the Year Award (POTYA) celebrates the performance of high-quality projects. POTYA finalist and winning projects demonstrate excellence in project management and integrate UNOPS mission, vision and values throughout their implementation.

Inspired by UNOPS renewed commitment to advancing gender equality and the empowerment of women and girls as outlined in the UNOPS strategic plan 2018-2021, this year's award this year's award will have an emphasis on the mainstreaming of gender and diversity in projects.

Every year, the IPMG runs an evaluation process to select the three POTYA finalist projects that are featured at an awards ceremony where the winning project is announced, typically by the UNOPS Executive Director.

The POTYA ceremony will take place on April 12th, 2018.

Functional Responsibilities

Purpose and scope of the assignment Once the three POTYA finalist projects have been selected, they are informed and asked to provide video footage and images that correspond to a specific brief. These materials are then transformed into short videos, one for each project, that are played at the awards ceremony, attended in person by HQ personnel and livestreamed to the whole organization.

The Editor will produce the three finalist videos, each about 3-5 minutes in length. The videos are intended for an internal UNOPS-only audience, but will be widely circulated to all personnel. Examples from prior years will be provided.

Functional responsibilities include:

  • The Editor will review the footage and photos provided by the three identified finalist projects.
  • Under the direction of IPMG, the Editor will create a simple storyboard for each video, following a basic structure provided by IPMG.
  • The Editor will edit and produce the three videos using the provided materials and including supplementary open source (or bespoke) footage, photos or animations as needed, and meeting the following requirements:
  • All three videos employ the same overall structure and visual style;
  • Visual elements are aligned to the UNOPS Brand Manual;
  • Background music/scoring is added to the videos where appropriate;
  • English subtitles are created and added to the video; in the case of footage in another language, translated text will be provided.
  • Upon review of the videos by IPMG, the Editor will carry out any edits required to finalize the videos.
  • The Editor will provide both a final .mp4 file as well as the video project files (in the software programme used, e.g. Final Cut Pro).

The Editor will work remotely, but may schedule Skype meetings, and provide earlier drafts for quick review, as needed with the IPM Analyst.
Monitoring, Evaluation and Progress Controls

  • Videos are prepared in line with the key objectives of the ceremony/award process
  • Timely submission of all draft and final videos against the set requirements
  • Satisfactory feedback (the videos meet UNOPS quality standards) received by IPMG Director and duly accepted by the Infrastructure and Project Management Analyst and Support Services Specialist.
