OBJECTIVES OF THE PROGRAMME

The Information and Technologies Management Unit (ITM) provides information and technologies management services to WHO programmes, including the Inter Country Support Team Offices (IST), and 47 WHO country offices in the African region. 

The Unit is also responsible for the formulation, implementation, and coordination of ICT strategies and policies in the region.

 

PURPOSE OF THE POST

The Infrastructure Assistant will provide support and assist in the administration of networking and telecommunications infrastructure for the regional office.

DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES

 

Under the supervision of the Infrastructure specialist, the incumbent is expected to carry out the following duties or any other as may be required by his/her hierarchical supervisors\: 

· Monitor GPN links, develop and distribute relevant statistics, including transmission performance of all local and remote network nodes;

· Support end-users on network and communication (network point management, telephone equipment and features, etc.) and related issues;

· Provide support for teleconference and other online telecommunication applications 

· Install or implement new structured cabling extensions on the network  and network points;

· Install new WIFI devices, notably access points and switches;

· Monitor and troubleshoot network equipment performance and report any malfunction.

· Assist in the inventory management of network components 

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Education

Essential\: Completion of secondary school education and technical training in networking concepts and the installation of telecommunications and active devices (switch, router, firewall, etc.).

 

Desirable\: CISCO trainings/certifications will be an important asset.

Experience

Essential\: A minimum of 5 years’ experience in telecommunications, networking concepts and structures as well as  configuration and management of active devices (switch, router, firewall, etc.). 

Desirable\: Experience with UN Agencies would be an added advantage.

Skills

Thorough applied knowledge of all elements of, and skill to carry out, work involving the operation of cabling structures and installation of devices (switches, routers, firewall, WIFI access point, etc.);

Computer literacy

This position handles information, correspondences and documents that require strict confidentiality and discretion. Demonstrated ability to use Microsoft Office Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook is also required as well as a good general knowledge of the Global Management System (GSM)

Essential\: Excellent written and verbal communication in French, with a good working knowledge of English.

REMUNERATION

WHO offers staff in the General Services category an attractive remuneration package, which for the above position includes an annual net base salary starting at XAF 1,006,300(subject to mandatory deductions for pension contributions and health insurance, as applicable) and 30 days of annual leave.
