Company Description

At CERN, the European Organization for Nuclear Research, physicists and engineers are probing the fundamental structure of the universe. Using the world's largest and most complex scientific instruments, they study the basic constituents of matter - fundamental particles that are made to collide together at close to the speed of light. The process gives physicists clues about how particles interact, and provides insights into the fundamental laws of nature. Find out more on http://home.cern.

Job Description

Introduction

As an experienced Mechanical Technical Engineer, you will be assigned to the Experimental Physics Department (EP), CMS Experiment Systems Group, Engineering & Integration Section (CMX-EI), responsible for designing detector components and providing technical support to experiment maintenance & operation. The section also participates in the development of the extensive CMS upgrade program.

• Design complex mechanical components, systems and infrastructures for the detectors and prepare drawings for specifications and manufacturing folders in compliance with relevant standards, on the basis of discussions with the existing engineering and integration team.
• Participate as a technical contact in the follow-up of production, acceptance, assembly and installation, of system components, materials and tools.
• Contribute to assembly and installation studies and take a leading part in the supervision work on the field, develop associated tooling and procedures as needed. Ensure safety of personnel working on site by conceiving specific access facilities and radiation protection shields.
