Organizational Setting
The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) leads international efforts to defeat hunger and to support development in member countries in the areas of agriculture, fisheries and forestry. FAO’s mandate is to raise levels of nutrition, improve agricultural productivity, better the lives of rural populations and contribute to the growth of the world economy.
The objective of the Call is to attract global talents who are strongly motivated to contribute to the FAO’s mandate through their technical expertise and knowledge. The Call will create a pool of qualified applicants that will be used to identify candidates for consultancy assignments with FAO. FAO employs consultants in all duty stations to perform functions of an advisory or consultative nature related to the work of the Organization.

The consultant will report to an assigned supervisor in the related Unit.

Tasks and responsibilities
The consultant will perform the functions specified in the Terms of Reference (TOR) prepared by the hiring office before the beginning of the assignment and agreed by the consultant. Samples of TOR are as follows\:
  • Provide technical support and the advice to management and staff;
  • Prepare various written outputs, e.g. draft background papers, analyses, sections of reports and studies, inputs to publications;
  • Collect, review/cross check and/or analyse relevant agricultural, economic, trade, market, social, environmental, nutrition/food composition and/or gender related data, statistics and information to support delivery of programme projects, products, publications and services;
  • Participate on multi-disciplinary project/work teams;
  • Liaise with internal and external stakeholders to supports the activities/projects of the Unit;
  • Contribute to the development of information and training materials and coordinates and assists in the presentation of information/ training sessions to management and staff.
CANDIDATES WILL BE ASSESSED AGAINST THE FOLLOWING
Minimum Requirements
  • Advanced university degree in a related field to the work of the Organization
  • Minimum five years of relevant experience in a related field to the work of the Organization
  • Working knowledge of English, French or Spanish and limited knowledge of one of the other two or Arabic, Chinese, Russian.
