The position is located in Office of the Assistant Secretary-General for Human Resources Management and is for a period of three months, with the possibility for extension.The internship is unpaid and full-time. Interns work five days per week (35 hours) under the supervision of the Programme Officer in the Office of the Assistant Secretary-General for Human Resources Management.Responsibilities

The Office of the Assistant Secretary-General for Human Resources Management (OASG/OHRM) of the United Nations in New York is currently looking for a Communications intern who is interested in joining a very dynamic and international office which is mandated to provide human resources services across the global UN Secretariat.
Duties may include but are not limited to:
-Research, compile, draft and edit basic information for use in the preparation and production of communications materials, often under tight deadlines.
-Monitor and analyze statistics related to our websites and communications products.
-Manage meeting agendas and draft meeting notes.
-Participate in organizing and setting up for special events organized by the department, as necessary.
-Draft and prepare written documents for various purposes (e.g. meeting notes, background material, correspondence, reports, etc.)
-Assist in the implementation of the System-Wide Gender Parity Strategy and related work.
-Knowledge in using social media platforms like Facebook and Twitter.
-Familiarity with and/or interest in taking digital photographs.
-Familiarity with graphic design tools (Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator or other graphic design programme) is a plus.
-Take on other special projects as assigned.

Applicants must meet one of the following requirements:
(a) be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher);
(b) be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum Bachelor's level or equivalent); or
(c) have graduated with a university degree (as defined in (a) and (b) above) and, if selected, must commence the internship within a one-year period of graduation;
In addition to the following:
• Be computer literate in standard software applications, in particular Microsoft Word and Excel;
• Have a demonstrated keen interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the Charter;
• Have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which include willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views;
• Familiarity and interest with issues related to international relations and equal representation of women and gender mainstreaming.

Fluency in English (both oral and written) is required. Knowledge of French is desirable. Knowledge of another UN official language is an advantage.Assessment
