UNOPS is seeking an intern to support UNOPS business intelligence projects within the Innovation and Improvement Team in Procurement Group. Procurement Group’s mission is to provide procurement excellence across UNOPS that facilitates efficient and sustainable procurement delivery, enabling the success of our partners and clients. The Innovation and Improvement Team is responsible for leveraging data and analysis to assess and identify enhancements to procurement processes and outcomes. The team is also responsible for production of the Annual Statistical Report on United Nations Procurement (ASR), a flagship publication providing data and analysis on the goods and services procured by the UN system. Functional Responsibilities

1. Duties and Responsibilities

The intern will be involved in the design, analysis and production of procurement business intelligence projects for UNOPS. This will include:
  • Assisting in the collation, verification and analysis of UNOPS and United Nations procurement data
  • Developing analysis, statistics and reporting, as well as data dashboards
  • Assisting in the production of reports and presentations, including the Annual Statistical Report on United Nations Procurement (ASR)
  • Assisting in the automation of the production of key procurement reports
  • Participating in continual improvement of procurement data quality and reporting

The intern will also be involved in project administration for the ASR, communicating with stakeholders within and outside UNOPS, conducting analysis and providing insights on the ASR data and producing interactive dashboards using ASR data.

The intern’s duties will also include performing other related duties within the team / UNOPS as required.

2. Training components and learning elements The majority of the intern’s training and learning will be on the job. Further development opportunities will be discussed based on team and individual requirements.    

3. Participation in missions or training courses The intern will complete mandatory induction training and will also be encouraged to complete procurement related online training courses. Participation in missions is not anticipated.

4. Additional comments Specific deliverables will be agreed based on the qualifications and skills of the selected candidate together with the Team Manager. This internship is not designed to lead to an ongoing position with UNOPS. Therefore, there should be no expectation of employment at the end of the internship.

Education/Experience/Language requirements

1. Academic qualifications

  • Candidates must either be pursuing a university degree such as a Bachelor’s, Master’s or PhD (or equivalent), or have graduated from university no more than three years prior to applying for the internship.
  • Candidates’ qualifications and experience should be in a field related to mathematics, statistics, data science, engineering, finance, business management or equivalent.

2. Language Skills

  • Fluency in English is required. 
  • Knowledge of other working languages (French, Spanish) is an asset.

3. Computer Literacy

Essential:

  • Analysing data, creating charts and pivot tables, and using functions in spreadsheet tools such as Microsoft Excel or Google Sheets

Desirable:

  • Creating documents and presentations using tools such as Microsoft Word / PowerPoint or Google Docs / Slides
  • Using and creating data visualizations and dashboards using software such as PowerBI, Tableau or Google Data Studio
  • Knowledge of databases (e.g. SQL, Big Query) and statistical programming languages (e.g. R, Python) in order to assist with procurement related ICT developments

4. Internship-related experiences No prior work experience is required, but work experience in design and execution of reporting and analytics programmes, preferably in public sector procurement, and using this data to influence others through reports and presentations, will be considered an asset.

This internship is not designed to lead to a staff position with UNOPS. Therefore, there should be no expectation of employment at the end of the internship.
Interns may be eligible for a monthly stipend  from UNOPS provided that they do not receive funds from other institutions. Further, UNOPS may provide a one time travel lumpsum of 500 USD. However, they must make their own arrangements for accommodation, travel and necessary visa arrangements.
