The Secretary General´s Office has overall responsibility for the operational side of Forum Syd’s activities, for the overall strategic development of Forum Syd, representation of Forum Syd externally and for management of Forum Syd’s long-term financing. The Secretary General’s Office is the global process owner of fundraising and is responsible for the organizational relationship with members and other stakeholders.
Furthermore the Secretary General’s Office is responsible for providing the board with information, documentation and support that is needed for the board to fulfill its strategic role. It is the responsibility of the Secretary General’s Office to translate the strategic direction set by the board to action on the ground. This includes managing the operational planning and follow-up processes. The Deputy Secretary General will have the overall managerial responsibilities for all Hubs at Forum Syd as well as for fundraising.
The position reports to the General Secretary and is a full-time permanent contract with a six month probation period, based at Forum Syd’s office in Stockholm, Sweden.
Areas of responsibility
- Overall plan for operation and budgets in Hubs
- Overall strategic development within Hubs
- Managerial responsibilities for Hub Managers and support on day to day-business issues including frequent follow up on priorities and work plans.
- Together with Hub managers follow up on the development in the regional context
- Fundraising with an innovative focus
- Substitute for the Secretary-General as needed
- Other tasks as assigned
Qualifications required
- Extensive experience of working internationally with development cooperation
- Very good written and spoken English.
- Experience in leading managers and management teams
- Experience in fundraising and innovation
- Experience working with strategic development
- Contextual knowledge of Eastern Africa, Eastern Europe, Latin America
- Experience of working in a civil society organization
- Advantage – Experience working outside Sweden with development issues
- Advantage - Experience of working with global teams in a multicultural setting
- Advantage - Good ability to written and spoken Swedish.
Education and work experience
You should have a relevant academic degree or equivalent qualifications obtained in another way. 10 years’ management experience involving implementation of international programmes, donor compliance and/or working internationally with development cooperation is required.
