Your team

Within the Network Management Directorate, the core Surveillance activities of the Network CNS-IM Services are SRS, Surveillance products and services, Surveillance Data Processing, tracking, ATM suRveillance Tracker and Server (ARTAS), Air situation picture, Surveillance Analysis Support System for ATC Centre (SASS-C), Surveillance infrastructure performance verification (VERIF), Surveillance performance prediction (PREDICT), Surveillance Data Distribution System (SDDS), Radar Recording and Reply (RRR) and Radar Sharing Agreement (RSA).


The Surveillance Analysis Support System for ATC Centres (SASS-C) is software developed by EUROCONTROL. To ensure its stability and reliability, the Agency also provides updates, maintenance and support to SASS-C along with standardised methods for assessing the performance of surveillance infrastrucure. SASS-C provides interoperable top level verification (VERIF) and prediction (PREDICT) functionalities to civil and military Air Navigation Service Providers (ANSPs), R&D organisations and the ATM industry.

Your role

The successful candidate will perform the following tasks under the responsibility of his superior:



  • To contribute to the evolution of the SASS-C product by capturing and analysing requirements, producing documentation, preparing relevant specifications etc., and monitor its development;

  • To ensure that the activities related to the SASS-C service are in line with ISO 9001:2015;

  • To provide technical domain and software expertise on the SASS-C product as required;

  • To manage contractual activities related to the evaluation, development and deployment in support of the SASS-C product;

  • To contribute to the development, execution and monitoring of planning and reporting processes for the SASS-C product;

  • To participate in working groups, meetings, projects etc., and contribute to improvement initiatives;

  • To perform any other task in line with the main purpose of the job.

Required qualifications, experience & competencies


  • A level of education which corresponds to completed university studies of at least 3 years attested by a diploma, or where justified in the interest of the service, professional training of an equivalent level. Possessing a mathematical background would be considered an asset.

  • In addition to the above, minimum 4 years of relevant working experience

  • Experience in ATM software specification, design, development and validation

  • Experience in leading a software development team

  • Experience in modern ATM surveillance performance specifications

  • Master in coordinating systems and transformations

  • Experience in ATM surveillance reference trajectory reconstruction/tracking

  • Strong mathematical background and experience in applying it to ATM engineering work or an adjacent field (avionics, space navigation,...)

  • English drafting skills

  • Analytical thinking: Identifies critical relationships

  • Team work: Fosters team work

  • The working languages of the Agency are English and French. For this particular post, thorough knowledge of English (oral/written) and basic knowledge of French are required.

  • At the closing date of the notice of competition, internal candidates must have completed their probationary period.

  • The selected candidate will be offered a contract of 3 Year(s) pursuant to the provisions of the Conditions of Employment of Contract Staff at EUROCONTROL. The contract may be renewed. Before being established in the post, he/she will be required to provide certified copies of his/her degrees and successfully serve a probationary period of 9 months.

  • The successful candidate shall be appointed in principle at the basic grade of the advertised grades.
