ORGANIZATIONAL SETTING

The Establishment Agreement calls for the Centre to enhance communication and information exchange in order to facilitate interreligious and intercultural dialogue and cooperation among people. The Communications Department engages KAICIID’s audiences with information that fosters an up-to-date, actionable and relevant understanding of the Centre’s mission and work. Its goal is to win support for the Centre’s mandate and a positive reception of the outcomes its work achieves.

ROLE

Under the supervision of the Chief, Public Affairs and guidance of the Director of Communications Department, the Public Affairs Officer is responsible for ensuring clear, accurate and aligned messaging from KAICIID to German speaking media as well as German-speaking public audiences.

FUNCTIONS

  • Serve as focal point for German language media outreach;
  • Maintains, develops and adds to KAICIID’s media list in Austria, and researches and identifies potential media opportunities in other countries;
  • Engage and support journalists’ coverage in mass market, religious and specialized media of KAICIID’s work;
  • Provide public information and public affairs support in German such as speech writing, talking points, media briefing content;
  • Liaise with other colleagues, in particular with the Local Outreach team, to solicit input towards press releases, web, social media and press outreach in German;
  • Script, produce and supervise the production of multimedia, press releases, media advisories, web articles, social media, public presentations;
  • Monitor appropriate German media with regard to issues of interreligious dialogue and KAICIID keywords;
  • Write articles and press releases in German;
  • Maintains KAICIID’s German-language website;
  • Proofread and edit externally translated German material for publication;
  • Undertake any other assignments as may be required.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

  • Advanced university degree in communications, media, journalism, or other related field;
  • Minimum 3 years of progressively responsible professional experience in undertaking media outreach on behalf of an organization, ideally in an international setting;
  • Experience as a working journalist a distinct advantage,
  • Excellent writing, drafting and editing skills in German and English;
  • Excellent interpersonal skills;
  • Commitment to highest ethical standards and human rights;
  • KAICIID core values and core competencies;
  • Willingness to support KAICIID initiatives (task teams, etc.);
  • Willingness to learn about inter-religious and inter-cultural dialogue;
  • Willingness to engage in dialogue in interactions with stakeholders and colleagues.

LANGUAGES

English and German proficiency (spoken and written) is required, knowledge of any other major languages desirable.

COMPENSATION

Starting net salary per month: EUR 3575. In addition KAICIID will provide social security coverage free of charge. KAICIID salaries are exempt from taxation in Austria. 

PERIOD of CONTRACT

The selected candidate is expected to start on 1 May 2019 and will be offered a temporary appointment until end of 2019.
