Brief description of the team:
The team covers several Central European countries - Czech Republic, Poland, Romania and Slovakia. One of the team’s main focus for 2018 is the human rights situation in Poland.
The volunteer would support the team with media monitoring; desk-based research on specific human rights issues, including the right to freedom of assembly, the right to freedom of expression and sexual and reproductive rights, as well as the socio-political situation and constitutional developments. Some of the volunteer's additional tasks will likely be of an administrative nature.
The volunteer will be given appropriate training to enable him/her to complete the assigned tasks.
This volunteer position would particularly suit students of human rights, politics, law or journalism, or others with a demonstrated interest in one or more of the above.
Task List:
* Research of information on the internet or via phone. The volunteer could be asked to perform searches through relevant governmental and non-governmental websites, and download information.
* Press monitoring and filing. The volunteer will assist with weekly press monitoring.
* Correspondence. The volunteer could be occasionally asked to draft replies to letters from the public, as instructed by the team members. All information to members of the public (letters, faxes, emails, documents) must be agreed with the team before being sent out.
* Filing and organizational assistance. Some filing and photocopying of AI’s documents and correspondence might be occasionally required.
Essential skills and experience:
* Excellent spoken and written English and Polish
* Interest in and knowledge of the political situation in Poland and other East-Central European Countries
* Familiarity with computer word processing, databases, internet.
* Commitment to working in a multi-cultural and diverse environment
Desirable Skills and experience:
* Interest in and knowledge of human rights in the region – especially the right to freedom of assembly and independence of judiciary.

Volunteering is unpaid, although travel and lunch expenses are provided. We are able to offer only very limited advice in terms of finding accommodation and Volunteers are responsible for arranging their own visa/work permit where required.
