Your team

Within the Directorate Maastricht Upper Area Control Centre,  the Training and Proficiency Unit is a certified training provider. It develops, delivers and maintains training courses for ab initios and ATCO's.

Your role

Your role will be to:



  • Contriute to the development of content, delivery and maintenance of Unit training, the continuation and development training for operational staff and student air traffic controllers;

  • Act as ATC instructor in the pre-transition training as part of the initial training programme delivered at ENAC for student air traffic controllers (requiring extended periods of work in Toulouse);

  • Act as course coordinator by providing guidance and coaching to students, ensuring availability of training documentation and equipment etc.;

  • Prepare examinations, assessing and monitoring students' progress and provide regular oral feedback and reports;

  • Ensure training standards by monitoring training methods applied and provide guidance and advice to OJTI staff;

  • Advise within scope of expertise and assist the Training team as and when required;

  • Hold and maintain a valid STDI (synthetic training device instructor) endorsement;

  • Perform any other task in line with the main purpose of the job.

Required qualifications, experience & competencies


  • Completed university studies of 4 years in a relevant field or 3 years with at least 1 year od relevant working experience, or professional training of an equivalent level.

  • Internal candidates should check on the intranet to see what level of in-house experience is considered equivalent to educational qualifications where appropriate.

  • In addition to the above, minimum 4 years of relevant working experience.

  • Hold a valid EU regulation 2015/340 compatible licence.

  • Experience of best practices in teaching methods, testing and assessment and learning styles.

  • Knowledge of advanced ATC systems.

  • Presentation and pedogogical skills.

  • Understanding of CNS systems and simulator tools.

  • Understanding of human performance limitations, assessment and validation.

  • Experience in a control centre with a traffic complexity comparable to the one of Maastricht UAC would constitute an advantage.

  • Analytical thinking: identifies critical relationships.

  • Communication: fosters two-way communication.

  • Creativity and innovation: is open to new approaches.

  • Flexibility in working hours is required as activities might require to work on shift (08:00-22:00) and during weekends no night).

  • The working languages of the Agency are English and French. For this particular post, thorough knowledge of English and satisfactory knowledge of French to the extent necessary for the performance of the duties.

  • Applications will be accepted from nationals of EUROCONTROL Member States only. At the closing date of the notice of competition, internal candidates must have completed their probationary period.

  • This is an appointment for a determined period of 5 Year(s). It could be extended up to a maximum of 7 years or converted into an undetermined contract. Before being established in the post, the external candidate will be required to provide certified copies of his/her degrees and successfully serve a probationary period of 9 months.

  • Internal candidates appointed to an established post or for an undetermined period: If successful, the person will maintain his/her current type of appointment yet be selected to fill this position under the conditions set above (determined period). At the end of this limited-term appointment, he/she will be transferred to the type of post and grade corresponding to the one he/she held before the determined appointment.

  • Internal candidates appointed for determined period: If successful, the person will continue his/her current type of appointment if compliant with duration limits laid down in Annex X of the Staff Regulations/General Conditions of Employment.

  • The successful candidate shall be appointed at the grade in the function group and to the type of post indicated in the vacancy notice, or, if a group of grades has been published, in principle at the basic grade.
