Role overview
VSO is taking stock of our work in livelihoods to develop the most relevant work for the future. We are evaluating how VSO’s unique volunteering for development (V4D) approach is making systematic change to empower vulnerable and marginalised communities.
We are looking for a livelihood’s expert that can help us develop meaningful partnerships and leverage funding opportunities. You will use your technical expertise and understanding of the sector, to help translate our V4D approach into the most fitting sustainable partnerships. Specifically you will;
• from a technical perspective, provide strategic guidance in which markets and strategic partners will best respond to our V4D approach;
• build upon and strengthen our market intelligence within the livelihoods sector;
• lead our technical responses to high value funding opportunities;
• build our credibility and reputation in the theme though attendance and speaking at relevant global events;
• provide insight into how our technical products can be linked to market opportunities;
• engage with partners and donors to test our models the technical aspirations of donors;
• build relationships with technical focal points within key partner organisations;
• provide technical advice in how VSO can strengthen our delivery model to make it more attractive to partners and donors; and
• recommend where VSO can expand our livelihoods work.
Skills, qualifications and experience
Skills, qualifications and experience
• At least 10 years’ experience implementing donor funded livelihoods projects in a technical or senior level;
• Experience in securing high levels of funding from a range of donors;
• Strong communication skills, both written and oral, to engage with partners, donors on both a technical and non-technical basis;
• Connectivity to numerous livelihoods networks and networks within the international development context that can be drawn upon;
• Extensive experience and knowledge of Rural livelihoods programming, including vocational and agricultural related skills training; enterprise development; market-led approaches;
• Strong understanding of technical trends and contemporary approaches to livelihoods;
• Excellent understanding and demonstrated experience of project cycle management, organisational assessment, planning and M&E tools and pocesses; and
•Able to travel internationally and at times long hours, including work away from the home base.
