OBJECTIVES OF THE PROGRAMME

The overall goal of the WHO Country Office, Solomon Islands is to support health development by ensuring a functional health care system that has the capacity to deliver responsive quality services that are accessible, affordable and equitable for all populations of Solomon Islands.

DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES

Under the guidance and supervision of the Programme and Administrative Officer, the incumbent performs the following functions\:

 

1. Drives the official vehicles of the WHO Country Office, Solomon Islands for the transport of authorized personnel and delivery/collection of mails, documents, consignments and other items;

 

2. Keeps driving license valid, conforms to the traffic code and meets all requirements for the driving the assigned motor vehicle;

 

3. Ensures that steps required by rules and regulations are taken in case of involvement in accident;

 

4. Ensures day-to-day maintenance and cleanliness of assigned motor vehicle;

 

5. Keeps records of the performance and cost of operation and upkeep of the vehicle assigned;

 

6. Assists in identifying and purchasing necessary spare parts for office vehicle; undertakes minor repairs of vehicles under the administrative custody of the Country Office and obtains appraisals on cost of vehicle repairs;

 

7. Transports official passengers and facilitates immigration and customs formalities as required;

 

8. Ensures safe carrying of pouches, mail or any documents, parcels or other articles entrusted for transporting; and

 

9. Performs other duties as and when required.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Education

Essential\: Completion of secondary education.
Desirable\: Additional education/training an advantage.

Experience

Essential\: At least one year working experience as a driver with safe driving record.
Desirable\: Driving experience in an international organization is desirable.

Skills

Must possess valid driver's license to drive automobile/minibuses. Excellent and up-to-date knowledge of driving and traffic rules and regulations. An excellent knowledge of the layout and streets of duty stations and environments. Skills in motor vehicle mechanics. Ability to work harmoniously as a member of a team. Adapt to diverse educational and cultural backgrounds and maintain a high standard of personal conduct.

REMUNERATION

WHO offers staff in the General Services category an attractive remuneration package, which for the above position includes an annual net base salary starting at SBD 46,017 (subject to mandatory deductions for pension contributions and health insurance, as applicable) and 30 days of annual leave.
