Interreligious Dialogue Hub

Programme Department

Grade: 5

Location: initially Vienna

(It is planned to open a regional office in 2020 and the role holder will be expected to move and work in that office)

 

ORGANISATIONAL SETTING

The primary objective of the Programme Department is to create the conditions, platforms and environment through which religious leaders and other actors, in particular policy makers, can engage in constructive dialogue, thus strengthening mutual understanding and respect with the ultimate aim to encourage them to initiate action to bring about change in the policies of religious institutions and governments, at various levels, build mechanisms to facilitate on-going dialogue and action as well as strengthen networks of committed and experienced religious leaders, and other actors in the use of interreligious dialogue (IRD) for peace and reconciliation in conflict situations in particular.

As one of the two Hubs in the Programme Department, IRD Hub focuses on applying IRD for peace and reconciliation in three regions, Arab region, Africa and Asia.

The Arab Region Programme is mainly focused on promoting the culture of dialogue, peace, coexistence and reconciliation in the Region. The Programme supports common citizenship, religious and cultural diversity, inter-community understanding and respect through strengthening the IRD capacity of religious leaders, dialogue practitioners and community actors.

ROLE

Under the supervision of the Senior Programme Manager, Arab Region Programme, the Programme Manager will support the day-to-day management and further development of the Programme.  

FUNCTIONS

  • Supports programme management, including, planning, implementation and monitoring of activities;
  • Assists the Field Experts with implementation of the country strategies, work-plans and budget;
  • Provides input to the strategic documents concerning programme planning and implementation, such as policy papers, concept notes, reports, and similar;
  • Contributes to the programme assessments and conclusion of partnerships agreements;
  • Supports the establishment of a coherent monitoring system, carries out data collection and surveys;
  • Supports the team in coordination between national counterparts, programme partners and other stakeholders (UN agencies, NGOs, CBOs, donors, etc);
  • Develops Terms of Reference for programme consultants/experts hired on a short-term basis and ensures proper delivery of technical services and submission of technical and other reports;
  • Supports the coordination of meetings, training sessions, conferences and public events organized in the region;
  • Replaces the Senior Programme Manager during his/her absence;
  • Performs any other duties as required.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

  • Advanced university degree in interreligious studies, peace and conflict resolution, sociology, human rights, refugee and migration studies, law, international relations or a similar discipline;
  • A minimum of five years’ of progressively responsible experience in programme management in a politically sensitive environment, including at the international level, preferably within an inter-governmental organization;
  • Field experience highly desirable, especially if from a conflict zone;
  • Experience with and knowledge of interreligious dialogue, in particular of the Christian-Muslim relationships in the Arab region;
  • Very good conceptual and analytical capability, ability to rapidly learn and apply new concepts;
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with ability to interact independently with religious leaders as well as with senior government officials;
  • Several years of experience in programme design and project management;
  • Excellent communication and networking skills;
  • Excellent writing skills, with analytical capacity and ability to interpret date, draw statistics from evaluations and synthesize data in preparation of quality reports;
  • Ability to organize and complete multiple tasks by establishing priorities;
  • Receptiveness to feedback, willingness to learn and embrace continuous improvement as part of change management;

  • Ability to advocate and provide policy advice;
  • Commitment to highest ethical standards and human rights.

LANGUAGES

English and Arabic proficiency (written and spoken), knowledge of any other major languages desirable.

TERMS OF APPOINTMENT

The selected candidate will be offered a monthly short-term appointment until end of 2019, with a possibility of extension, depending on the availability of the funding. Annual net salary for Grade 5 Step 1 is 55320 EUR. Appointments are normally made at Step 1. KAICIID salaries are exempt from taxation in Austria.
