POSTING TITLE: Senior Gender Consultant.

DEPARTMENT: Roots, Tubers & Bananas Program (RTB)

WORK LOCATION: Home based The CGIAR Program on Roots, Tubers and Bananas is seeking for a senior consultant with a demonstrated understanding of gender issues on agricultural research and development, particularly breeding and scaling of innovations, with a track record in published social science writing. Expected duration:

• This consultancy contract will be based on deliverables set by RTB’s Gender Specialist that will require 35 working days in total.

Deliverables and duties:

• Generate content for the incorporation of gender analysis into the “Scaling Readiness” framework and user guide.

o Participate in a workshop to analyze the Scaling Readiness framework, identify opportunities and propose alternative strategies to incorporate gender analysis in the implementation protocol.

o Develop a set of recommendations to incorporate gender analysis in the Scaling Readiness framework and user guide.

o Engage with the content facilitator to identify the best way to incorporate content and changes in Scaling Readiness user guide to make it gender- responsive.

• Develop a plan to test and refine the G+ tools from the gender and breeding initiative with a community of practice

• Provide structure and guidance for the systematization of at least two Gender and Breeding experiences

• Guide and consolidate the preparation of a framing paper on the G+ tools • Guide and consolidate the systematization of the GBI experience for a book chapter with PIM.

Qualifications/special skills

• Broad experience in gender in the context of agricultural research. • Experience in working with gender-responsive product profiles and gender- responsive customer profiles..

• Experience in working on gender issues for scaling or adoption of agricultural innovations. • Understanding of the terminology of the impact pathway of agricultural R&D and its development outcomes and impacts.

• Ability to write using technical concepts of agricultural research and RTB crops that may be unfamiliar initially.

• Experience as a book and technical editor

• Availability to travel abroad.

• Experience coordinating inputs from multiple contributors, giving constructive feedback .
