ORGANISATIONAL SETTING

The primary objective of KAICIID’s Programme Department is to create the conditions, platforms and environment through which religious leaders and other actors, in particular policy makers, can engage in constructive dialogue, thus strengthening mutual understanding and respect with the ultimate aim to encourage them to initiate action to bring about change in the policies of religious institutions and governments, at various levels, build mechanisms to facilitate on-going dialogue and action as well as strengthen networks of committed and experienced religious leaders, and other actors in the use of interreligious dialogue (IRD) for peace and reconciliation in conflict situations in particular.

As one of the two Hubs in the Programme Department, IRD Hub focuses on applying IRD for peace and reconciliation in three regions, Arab region, Africa and Asia.

The Arab Region Programme is mainly focused on promoting the culture of dialogue, peace, coexistence and reconciliation in the Region. The Programme supports common citizenship, religious and cultural diversity, inter-community understanding and respect through strengthening the IRD capacity of religious leaders, dialogue practitioners and community actors.

ROLE

Under the supervision of the Senior Programme Manager, Arab Region Programme, The Capacity Building Officer will support the day-to-day implementation, management and follow-up of the capacity building activities and further development of the training programmse in the Arab region. More specifically he/she will be responsible for assisting the Arab region team in planning, developing, designing, implementing and evaluating capacity building trainings, projects and workshops.

FUNCTIONS

  • Support the development and integratiion of a training strategy in the region under the umbrella of the Interfaith Dialogue Platform and contribute to the identification of the stakeholders’ needs in terms of capacity-building through needs collection and analysis;
  • Support all capacity-building activities under the umbrella of the IRD platform and the Network of religious faculties in the Arab region, ensure compliance with and effective use of the tools, models and guidelines developed by the Center for its work in the region;
  • Coordinate and organize training workshops as appropriate;
  • Design and implement training workshops in the field of IRD (i.e. interreligious education, Social media as space of Dialogue, common citizenship etc.), including identifying and formulating key objectives and expected outcomes;
  • Conduct training of trainers for relevant stakeholders and develop training guidelines and procedures; and/or co-facilitate workshops;
  • Monitor and review progress in the implementation of capacity building activities, including the design of the evaluation surveys and tools;
  • Prepare post training reports, including feedback from the participants on the trainers’ performance, statistical analysis of the pre/post test scores, etc;
  • Maintain an archive of key documents and keep records concerning projects activity for reporting purposes;
  • Identify and coordinate with external trainers and facilitators and provide them with the needed support to facilitate their work;
  • Collect data and document the capacity building activities implemented under the Programme;
  • Handle all administrative tasks necessary to facilitate the implementation of the capacity building activities;
  • Support facilitation during events and trainings and take care of reporting as well as moderate sessions, if need be;
  • Compile lists of participants, workshop recommendations, follow-up on recommendations, etc;
  • Work closely with the other team members and contribute to the quarterly and annual reports;
  • Keep up to date with capacity-building and training policies and tools developed and implemented in the region in the same and/ or similar fields;
  • Support the Centre’s Knowledge Hub in data collection and mapping exercises;
  • Perform any other tasks as required by the Centre.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

  • Advanced university degree in interreligious studies, peace and conflict resolution, sociology, or similar disciplines;
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in design and implementation of training materials, including the development of manuals, curricula tools, needs assessments, conducting capacity building activities, providing training (including training of trainers), etc;
  • Demonstrated practical (field) experience in training in IRD and/or peacebuilding, planning, design, implementation, management, monitoring and evaluation;
  • Proven experience in Project Management;
  • Computer literacy with practical experience in Microsoft applications;
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with people of different national and cultural backgrounds whilst remaining impartial and objective;
  • Field experience highly desirable, especially if in a conflict zone;
  • Experience in and knowledge of interreligious dialogue in the Arab region;
  • Very good conceptual and analytical skills as well as ability to rapidly learn and apply new concepts;
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with ability to interact independently with religious leaders;
  • Excellent communication and networking skills;
  • Excellent writing skills, with analytical capacity and ability to interpret data, draw statistics from evaluations and synthesize data in preparation of quality reports;
  • Ability to organize and complete multiple tasks by establishing priorities;
  • Receptiveness to feedback and willingness to learn and embrace continuous improvement;
  • Commitment to KAICIID core values;

  • Commitment to highest ethical standards and human rights.

LANGUAGES

English and Arabic proficiency (written and spoken). Knowledge of any other major languages desirable.

TERMS OF APPOINTMENT

The selected candidate will be offered a consultancy contract for a period of 6 months with a possibility of extension. KAICIID will offer a monthly fee based on the United Nations salary scale for the National Professionals (75% of NOB scale) applicable in the country of the selected candidate. The candidate is expected to work full-time for KAICIID.
