Job Title: Fundraising Consultant: Private Donors

Job Description
The IRC was founded in 1933 to assist refugees relocating to the United States from Germany and other European states. At the end of World War II, the IRC was one of the few organizations ready and able to assist the millions of refugees in need of sanctuary. In 2015, the IRC returned to the continent to provide immediate services for new arrivals on the Greek island of Lesvos at the height of the new refugee influx. The IRC’s response since expanded to include mainland Greece, Serbia and neighboring countries of the Balkans, Germany, and Italy. We also work with/through local partners in Portugal, Spain, Bulgaria and a number of other EU member states. Our current areas of programming in Europe fall under two pillars. According to the context, including whether in arrival, transit, or destination countries, different combinations of services are provided:
1.Protection and Migration pillar: responding to short / medium term needs of new arrivals and refugees / asylum seekers in “transit” situations. Services include cultural orientation, basic language classes, legal assistance, referrals to specialized providers, specialized care for Unaccompanied Children (UAC), Mental Health and Psychosocial Support (MHPSS) etc.
2.Integration and Resettlement pillar: supporting local governments, civil society and communities in the effective integration of refugees and asylum seekers. This includes socio-economic integration (livelihoods, employment support, language classes, cultural orientation / system navigation support), education (refugee children and adults).
IRC fundraisers already engage on multiple levels with private donor markets in Europe. The global priority for IRC is to engage donors with international reach, humanitarian priorities, and interest in funding at scale. At the same time, recognizing the presence of donors, including smaller local donors, with interests that are aligned with our growing portfolio of domestic programs in Europe, the IRC wishes to deepen its understanding of those domestic donor markets to ensure we maximize opportunities to support our programs locally in Europe as well as internationally.
Scope of Work Fundraising Consultant
The Fundraising Consultant is a short-term expert who will develop a comprehensive donor landscape mapping to build IRC’s understanding of relevant donor markets in Italy and to support the IRC’s ambition to engage with as-yet untapped local/domestic donors in support of IRC interventions in Italy.
