Research Associate – Social Science
 
ICRAF through its host institution in Peru the International Potato Center (CIP) is seeking a Research Associate – Social Scientist, to be the focal point of ICRAF impact assessment team (IAL) in Peru and as such contribute to the ICRAF-led project “ Piloting Approaches to Rural Advisory Services in support of scaling of the Agroforestry Concessions scheme in Peru”, financed by BMZ-Germany and by PIM (Policy, Institution and Market Research Program).

The position: The Research Associate position will be based in Lima, Peru and will report to the Lead Scientist in Peru and the Coordinator of IAL (Impact Acceleration and Learning group). She/he Will implement research approach, design and fieldwork, in consultation with the Project PI and the IAL team.  
 
 
Key responsibilities:
  • Work with IAL and project team to design, review and refine project evaluation design based on indicators defined for the project with a particular focus on adoption and impact of technical assistance modules.
  • Support development, translation and coordinate the piloting of mobile platform survey instrument for baseline data collection and household data collection in general
  • Support enumerator recruitment, training, and supervision, as well as coordination of data collection implementation in 45 villages
  • Conduct online data quality checks following established protocol, reporting any issues to supervisor and/or other project staff for correction
  • Support data cleaning, variable construction and lead preliminary data analysis processes
  • Participate in intervention monitoring and documentation processes
  • Support the compilation of intervention delivery cost data to enable cost-effectiveness analysis and documentation of interventions impact
  • Contribute to the development of impact assessment capacities (both quantitative and Qualitative) in the project and within ICRAF LATAM team and be involved in research and methods development in IAL.
  • Support reinforcement of LATAM team capacity for quantitative livelihoods / Households’ analysis.

 

What are we looking for?

  • M.Sc. in economics, international development or other relevant social science field, with strong quantitative background
  • 3 years research experience, as a preference in the Amazon in relevant fields such as: Impact evaluation, livelihoods and households’ typologies analysis, technical assistance/extension and adoption frameworks.
  • Proficiency in relevant software packages (Microsoft Word, Excel, R, ODK, Statistical software)
  • Well-developed analytical and synthesizing skills with the ability to write clear and concise documents, including contributions to quality scientific papers
  • Good team player, including coordination of technicians (consider changing for: Good team player, skilled at supervising different levels’ positions in challenging rural conditions)
  • Excellent command of the English and Spanish languages, both written and spoken
  • Able to travel frequently inside Peru (San Martin department)
