Communications Assistant

The Communications Assistant will be a GGGI staff, embedded within the NDC Hub in Suva, Fiji and will be part of the NDC Hub Implementation Unit, led by the NDC Hub Coordinator. The Communications assistant will report to GGGI Senior Green Investment Specialist (also part of the NDC Hub Implementation Unit) and to the NDC Hub Coordinator. The Communications Assistant will support a senior communication officer.

The Communications Assistant implements comprehensive communications and knowledge management functions for the NDC Hub. He/she is in charge of supporting the preparation of the NDC Hub communications strategy and plan, in cooperation with the NDC Hub Partners and NDC Focal points of the country members. He/she is carrying out necessary research and basic analysis of communications content and channels; supporting the development and management of work plan information to optimize accessibility and functionality; supporting third party communications suppliers; implementing (with assistance from other NDC Hub staff and third party suppliers) the NDC Hub communications strategy and outreach, such as the NDC Hub newsletter, events, campaigns and content dissemination at the regional level, in accordance with both global and Pacific standards and partner requirements.

PURPOSE

 

The role of Communications Assistant is to support implementation of communications and knowledge management functions for the NDC Hub.

The responsibilities will include:

  • Provide communications support to the NDC Hub Management Team
  • Attend meetings and assist with preparation of technical notes
  • Update NDC Hub social media accounts including Facebook, Instagram and Twitter
  • Management of public relations and media related to the NDC Hub (including drafting speaking notes, presentations & speeches for NDC Hub representatives)
  • Support content development for a monthly newsletter highlighting interesting resources and sharing messages from the consultation process
  • Publish a monthly newsletter (using Mailchimp)
  • Support the set-up & management of an NDC Hub Helpdesk, providing a single point of contact for all queries to the NDC Hub
  • Support the establishment & management of a shared contact database and client relationship management system including media related contacts
  • Support overall communications of all NDC Hub events
  • Promote events such as fairs, dialogues with private sector and civil society at national level
  • Maintain a list of interested stakeholders and facilitate communication an email list and online discussion forum
  • Support Development of content of the NDC Hub website, as part of the Pacific Climate Change Portal and ensure it is up to date. 
  • Support the development of key messages that can be used by all partners for communicating the objectives of the Hub and how countries and stakeholders can request NDC-related support
  • Support the development of a marketing and communication pack including information blurbs, key messages, photos, logos, existing media coverage that can be used by all partners
  • Support the Pacific Climate Change Portal and Pacific Regional Database Repository for Sustainable Energy teams to add relevant content to both platforms
  • Support national, regional and global communications of NDC Hub content.

 

ENGAGEMENT

 

  • Support the NDC Hub’s public engagement.
  • Maintain relationships with NDC Hub’s country members and partners, development agencies, non-governmental organizations, and relevant stakeholders operating in the Pacific region to ensure the effective delivery of convincing communication of the activities led by the NDC Hub.
  • Support the NDC Hub’s engagement with GGGI headquarter and knowledge management within the NDC Hub and within GGGI.

 

DELIVERY

 

  • Support the senior communication officer of the NDC Hub.
  • Contribute to the design of communications and knowledge management strategy and implementation plan for the Pacific NDC Hub.
  • Support implementation of communications and knowledge management strategy / plan.
  • Support development of content in collaboration with partners, for communications materials and communications-related research and analysis.
  • Support procurement related to communications and knowledge management.
  • Develop reports on NDC Hub communications and knowledge management activities.

 

REQUIREMENTS
QUALIFICATIONS

 

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field, preferably communications, marketing, business administration, or a related discipline; graduate degree is an asset;
  • Minimum 2 years of relevant professional experience preferably in one or more of the following fields: communications and outreach; public policy and administration; and climate change;
  • Experience working with an international organization, government, donor, multilateral, NGOs or company;
  • Experience using social media to promote an organization or event and communicating professionally on social media (including Facebook, twitter, etc);
  • Experience in promoting workshops, events and fairs;
  • Experience in at least one of the following areas: public service campaign; conventional and social media strategy; communications content development; evidence and data-based communications; design and content development; strategy development;
  • Experience with public policy and investment, climate change, or sustainable development is a plus;
  • Experience developing newsletters would be an advantage;
  • Knowledge of green growth and climate change issues would be an advantage.

  • Excellent communication in English (both written and oral) and facilitation skills.
