Women, Peace and Security (WPS) Analyst

Description of task

Under the direct supervision of the the Head of WPS Thematic Area the national UN Volunteer will support the WPS team to undertake the following tasks:

Support ACO WPS experts to:

  • Draft programme/ project proposals and initiatives on WPS – with a focus on civil society organizations and selected government institutions,
  • Draft inputs to country strategy documents, briefs, policy dialogue and other documents related to WPS,
  • Facilitate capacity building needs assessments of partners and support the coordination of technical assistance, mentoring, training and capacity development initiatives to civil society partners,
  • Draft quarterly reports and donor reports, focusing on results, output and outcomes,
  • Facilitate specified coordination platforms with civil society and selected government entities, and as relevant for the UN agencies,
  • Perform events management tasks like drafting agenda, meeting minutes, assisting with logistics, etc., as needed,
  • Draft background documents, briefs and presentations related to WPS Programme area.

Furthermore, UN Volunteers are required to:

  • Strengthen their knowledge and understanding of the concept of volunteerism by reading relevant UNV and external publications and take active part in UNV activities (for instance in events that mark IVD);
  • Be acquainted with and build on traditional and/or local forms of volunteerism in the host country;
  • Reflect on the type and quality of voluntary action that they are undertaking, including participation in ongoing reflection activities;
  • Contribute articles/write-ups on field experiences and submit them for UNV publications/websites, newsletters, press releases, etc.;
  • Assist with the UNV Buddy Programme for newly-arrived UN Volunteers;
  • Promote or advise local groups in the use of online volunteering, or encourage relevant local individuals and organizations to use the UNV Online Volunteering service whenever technically possible.
Qualifications/Requirements Required degree level: Bachelor degree or equivalent Education - Additional Comments:
  • Minimum of a BA/BS degree, graduate degree in in social sciences, human rights, gender/women's studies, international develop-ment,
Required experience: 24 Months Experience remark:
  • A minimum of 2 years of demonstrated experience in assisting in designing, planning and implementing projects,
  • Good writing and editing skills in English, Dari and Pashto required, espeiclaly briefs, agendas, minutes, project-management related documents,
  • Technical experience in Women Peace and Security is an asset;
  • Experience coordinating and liaising with government agencies and/or donors is an asset;
  • Familiarity with international development and gender equality an asset.
Language skills:
  • English(Mandatory), Level - Working Knowledge
