Job Description

The Financial Coach will support clients’ financial capability needs by providing and supporting group financial literacy training at IRC and in the community as well as providing one-on-one financial coaching and counseling to refugees and new Americans as a certified financial coach.The Financial Coach will coordinate with other programs in the office to support financial coaching needs identified in their clientele and will work overall to integrate financial wellbeing elements into existing programming.The Financial Coach will also support economic wellbeing events and initiatives that IRC offers to the community.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Directly coordinates and provides financial literacy group trainings for new refugee arrivals and other new American participants in the community.
  • Provides one-on-one coaching and counseling to help refugee participants with personal financial matters.
  • Works with clients to review personal credit history and helps support credit improvement activities.
  • Maintains client and program records and tracking for reports, proposals, outreach and advocacy.
  • Provides administrative support for credit-building and consumer loans given to clients through the Center for Economic Opportunity (CEO).
  • Works with partners to expand financial literacy support to community members and provide community based classes.
  • Supports community-based financial education and financial capability events given by IRC.
  • Supports annual VITA tax preparation services targeted to refugees and new Americans.
  • Complies with all policies, procedures and protocols of the agency.
  • Participates in all program meetings and staff development activities.
  • Other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Undergraduate degree in Finance, Business, Education, Public Administration, Social Services or related field.
  • At least two years of professional experience working in finance and basic financial literacy field required.
  • Experience with client counseling, case management or coaching required.
  • Proficiency in any refugee language strongly preferred (e.g. Arabic, Swahili, Kinyarwanda, Kirundi, etc.)
  • Experience working with immigrant or refugee population strongly preferred.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to make presentations required.
  • Demonstrated skills with reporting and tracking information in a database.

Work Environment:

  • Standard office work environment.
