Organizational Setting

The main aim of the FAO Country Offices, which are headed by an FAO Representative, is to assist the governments to develop policies, programmes and projects to achieve food security and to reduce hunger and malnutrition, to help develop the agricultural, fishery and forestry sectors, and to use their environmental and natural resources in a sustainable manner.

Reporting Lines

The Field-based Project Assistant reports to the National Project Coordinator under the overall supervision of the FAO Subregional Coordinator for Central Asia and the FAO Representative in Turkey. He/she also works under the technical guidance of the Lead Technical Officer (LTO) and in collaboration with FAO Turkey Office (FETUR) Team.

Technical Focus

Project management and implementation support, project operations and coordination support with the implementing partners..

Tasks and responsibilities

Under the overall supervision of the FAO Subregional Coordinator for Central Asia and the FAO Representative in Turke and the direct supervision of the National Project Coordinator, and the direct supervision of the National Project Coordinator (NPC) in and in collaboration with FAO Turkey Team and the national counterparts, the Field-Based Project Assistant will perform the following tasks\:

  • Support the NPC with the implementation of field based activities;
  • Provide support in strengthening communication and coordination between the central level of project bodies in Ankara (i.e. Field Programme and technical units in FAO and the National Project Implementation Unit in MAF) and the local units of executing partners (in Şanlıurfa) and other stakeholders on project-related activities;
  • Provide effective collaboration and cooperation linkages with local stakeholders, including representatives of local units of relevant agencies, local resource user associations and NGOs;
  • Report regularly on field level activities;
  • Support the NPC in preparing necessary project reports;
  • Conduct regular field monitoring visits;
  • Draft co-financing reports in province level;
  • Provide on-site support to technical staff for day-to-day coordination and communication with the Field Office staff;
  • Assist national and international consultants as well as project partners in planning and implementing project activities and facilitate visits and missions of project staff and consultants to the project site;
  • Support in the organization of workshops, trainings, seminars or other project-related events in the project areas close-cooperation with MAF extension offices;
  • Inform and work with local stakeholders on specific issues related to the project activities in the project areas in close cooperation with MAF extension offices.
  • Organize periodical meetings to support collaborative management of the project and to exchange information with Independent Expert Group and Local-based Stakeholder Group close-cooperation with MAF extension offices and NPC;
  • Perform other related tasks and duty travel as required

Minimum Requirements
  • High school diploma
  • Two years of relevant experience in project implementation support.
