Public Health Coordinator
OBJECTIVES OF THE PROGRAMME
To ensure that effective WHO country presence is established to implement WHO country cooperation strategies that are aligned with Member State's health priorities, sustainable development agendas and harmonized with the United Nations country teams and partners to improve health outcomes and progress towards achieving Universal Health Coverage.
DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES
1.Provide technical leadership, coordination and managerial support within the Programme areas, ensuring that activities are carried out efficiently and effectively.
2.Develop and propose technical health policies and strategies for implementation through collaboration with Regional and Country Offices and provides advice in developing further the vaccine preventable diseases agenda for strengthening and improving technical capacity of target beneficiaries.
3.Oversee a unit of technical teams specialized in various domains within their area of expertise and facilitates the efficient flow of team synergies.
4.Manage the programme areas in delivering its objectives through efficient managing a team of technical staff, financial resources and effective work planning to optimize the programme's deliverables in line with the mandate of the Organization.
5.Lead and conduct research on best practices in implementing programmes and activities and dissemination of information for capacity building in the respective area of work.
6.Manage the monitoring and evaluation and reporting of the subject area of work of key performance indicators and reporting requirements and mechanisms to optimize performance of Programme deliverables.
7.Serve as the technical reference among the peer community, UN Agencies and other stakeholders at the technical levels in the respective area of expertise.
8.Liaise with and utilize partnerships in other UN Agencies, Donor, or research institutions to position the technical area of work and implementation into Global and/or National policies.
9.Represent the programme area of work at various meetings to advocate for vaccine preventable diseases agenda.
10.Manage the programme delivery and timelines of various programme projects of the respective Department/Office in accordance with workplans and ensures the coordination of periodic reviews of programmatic/technical achievements and progress indicators for reporting activities.
11.Provide direction on quality control and certification on the compliance of transactions and allocation of financial resources for the Department/Office in accordance with WHO financial rules and regulations, also overseeing the financial reporting for the Department/Office.
12.Manage and develop workplan objectives and ensures priorities are met and on-track and advises senior management on developments and progress.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Education
Essential\: University degree in medicine with Master's degree in public health.
Desirable\: A PhD in health policy/system and/or public health.
Experience
Essential\: A minimum of 10 years of professional experience in the management of public health programmes, including experience in the area of health policies and strategies. Demonstrated experience managing human and financial resources. Demonstrated experience at the international level.
Desirable\: A good knowledge of WHO policy and procedures. Previous experience of working with UN is desirable.
Skills
Concrete skills in the planning and coordination of multidisciplinary public health programmes, which may include the implementation of a public health/disease control programmes. ï·
Strong skills in the area of developing and establishing polices and strategies, understanding of national health systems and the universal coverage goals and ability to interpret and adapt these in relation to country needs.
Excellent skills and ability in managing diverse teams and financial resources. Good skills in mobilizing resources.
Ability to write concise reports and draft strategic and operational plans. ï· Ability to engage and communicate effectively and diplomatically with external partners including Ministries of Health, Donor institutions, Civil Society, and other stakeholders. Commitment to collaborate effectively with other key partners in the Health Subject area.

REMUNERATION
WHO salaries for staff in the Professional category are calculated in US dollars. The remuneration for the above position comprises an annual base salary starting at USD 87,108 (subject to mandatory deductions for pension contributions and health insurance, as applicable), a variable post adjustment, which reflects the cost of living in a particular duty station, and currently amounts to USD 3310 per month for the duty station indicated above. Other benefits include 30 days of annual leave, allowances for dependent family members, home leave, and an education grant for dependent children.
