Eligibility criteria

Minimum age: 25 years old. Nationals of the country of assignment are not eligible, except the assignments in Headquarters duty stations.

Description of task
  • Research technical, scientific, and historical material and check supporting data for accuracy and relevance.
  • Analyse data in Excel and other software and visualize data in user-friendly ways to clearly communicate key health information and contribute to evidence-informed decision making.
  • Draft sections of key documents, reports, presentations, speeches and talking points for a variety of purposes and audiences, summarizing developments, outcomes/results and recommendations.
  • Interact and communicate clearly and consistently with WHO staff members across the African Region and with partners as required.
  • Contribute to strengthening document development and knowledge management systems and processes, including documenting action points from key meetings and initiatives and monitoring follow-up.
  • Any other related tasks as may be required or assigned by the supervisor.
Qualifications/Requirements Required degree level: Master degree or equivalent Education - Additional Comments:
  • Advanced higher degree (Master or equivalent) in a relevant area, e.g. health, communications, international development or a related area; a first-level university degree or equivalent in combination with relevant training and/or professional experience may be accepted in lieu of an advanced university degree;
Required experience: 24 Months Experience remark:
  • At least 2 years of professional work experience at the national and/or international level in health, communications, programme management, research or other relevant programmes; experience working in the UN or other international development organization is an asset;
Language skills:
  • English(Mandatory), Level - Fluent
  • French(Optional), Level - Working Knowledge
  • Portuguese(Optional), Level - Working Knowledge
Area of expertise: Development programme management Area of expertise details:
  • Excellent oral and written skills; excellent drafting, formulation, reporting and presentation design skills;
  • Accuracy and professionalism in researching and document production and editing ( Research and document production can be general not necessarily related to health topics.)
  • Excellent interpersonal skills; culturally and socially sensitive; ability to work inclusively and collaboratively with a range of partners, including grassroots community members, religious and youth organizations, and authorities at different levels; familiarity with tools and approaches of communications for development;
  • Ability to work and adapt professionally and effectively in a challenging environment; ability to work effectively in a multicultural team of international and national personnel;
  • Good computer literacy, including proficiency in various MS Office applications (Excel, Word, etc.) and email/internet; familiarity with database management; and office technology equipment;
  • Self-motivated, ability to work with minimum supervision; ability to work with tight deadlines;
  • Have affinity with or interest in public health and volunteerism as a mechanism for durable development, and the UN System.
