Office/Unit/Project Description
Nigeria is Africa’s largest economy, yet it faces persistent poverty, inequality, and structural economic challenges that undermine sustainable development. The country has a high youth unemployment rate, regional economic disparities, and vulnerability to global economic shocks. UNDP Nigeria plays a critical role in supporting evidence-based policy reforms, economic transformation strategies, and SDG financing to advance inclusive growth, poverty reduction, and sustainable development.

UNDP Nigeria Communications Unit plays a strategic role in promoting UNDP’s work by enhancing visibility, increasing public awareness, and fostering engagement with stakeholders, including government institutions, development partners, civil society organizations, and the media. The Communications Unit ensures effective messaging and advocacy to advance UNDP’s mission and mobilize resources for sustainable development initiatives.
The Communications and Digital Engagement Analyst support the implementation of the communications strategy and plans to ensure effective and efficient communication of UNDP with its partners, the media and targeted audiences. The Communications Analyst promotes a client-oriented approach geared to influence the development agenda, promote public and media outreach and mobilize political and financial support for UNDP.
Scope of Work/Duties and Responsibilities
Summary of Key Functions:
1. Contribute to the implementation of UNDP communications strategy and plans by conducting various communication related activities, producing communications products and performing quality assurance control
- Identify, propose and support communication opportunities and activities in line with the UNDP Nigeria Communications Strategy and work plans of office sections, projects and programmes.
- Provide writing, editorial and graphic design support for communication and public information needs of the Nigeria Country Office including concept notes, background information, talking points and briefing materials
- Draft success stories, human interest stories and other communications products that amplify the impact of UNDP Nigeria’s work for distribution on relevant channels.
- Provide photography and video production support for UNDP Nigeria events, launches and missions on an as needed basis
- Co-ordinate with communications solutions agencies (creative agencies, filmmakers and radio content producers, PR/media agencies, design studios for creative outputs), for the development of communication products and scheduling/completion of tasks
- Assist with the development and management of internal communications systems and activities. Support with preparation and organization of events e.g. workshops, high level events, conferences, programme and report launch, IPs and partners’ meetings.
2. Establish and maintain the UNDP corporate brand style guide to promote visual brand consistency across all publications.
- Create and update style guidelines for print and digital materials
- Monitor application of the style guide across teams at HQ, regional and local levels
- Increase level of brand compliance across the organization
- Offer guidance and training on branding to internal teams and consultants producing branded material.
- Deploy multi-branding guidelines in collaboration with other partners and UN agencies
3. Develop and oversee the graphic design of UNDP's flagship products for print and digital usages to effectively communicate key information and engage donors, partners, and other stakeholders
- Design and produce digital communications assets such as reports, power point decks, brochures, one pager, social media cards, digital banners, etc.
- Design print ready assets such as brochures, roll up banners, flyers, etc.
- Design and reflow branded assets in multiple languages
- Maintain and update a set of branded templates on Adobe Creative Suite and Canva to allow colleagues to quickly create communication assets in full compliance with brand and editorial guidelines
- Improve branded assets and templates based on feedback from colleagues and main target audience groups
4. Contribute to the production of engaging digital multimedia content to communicate organizational efforts, thought leadership, technical and financial information and achievements to a wider audience including partners, UN sister agencies, media, staff, and general public.
- Explore new tools and trends to help devise new audiovisual ways to create thought leadership products, tell impact stories and present financial services and instruments in a compelling, engaging and clear manner
- Provide technical support (recording, editing, coordinating etc.) to produce videos, animations, infographics, audio formats such as podcasts and any other multimedia content
- Support set up of video recording sessions of senior leaders, including set up of light, audio and video material
Provide guidance to improve the production of digital multimedia content - Collaborate with subject matter experts to collect accurate information and help break down technical and often jargony content into public facing messages and content
5.Offer backup support for social media communications, analytics and webmaster/CMS maintenance to ensure an uninterrupted, high-quality online presence and facilitate knowledge sharing
- Assist with social media publishing and monitoring
- Support in maintaining and updating website content by using the Content Management System
- Coordinate with the communications team to publish and promote content
- Support in monitoring performance analytics of digital platforms
- Identify and synthesize best practices and lessons learned directly linked to programme country goals and activities.
The incumbent performs other duties within their functional profile as deemed necessary for the efficient functioning of the Office and the Organization.
Institutional Arrangement
Under the direct supervision of the Resident Representative, the Communications and Digital Engagement Analyst will work closely with the Deputy Resident Representative (Programmes), the Deputy Resident Representative (Operations), the Portfolio Advisor, and the Chief Innovation Officer to ensure that all communications efforts are strategically aligned with UNDP Nigeria’s priorities and visibility objectives.

Required Skills and Experience
Education:
Min. Academic Education
- Advanced university degree (master’s degree or equivalent) in Communications, Media relations, Journalism, Publishing. Graphic Communications and other related fields are required. OR
- A first-level university degree (bachelor’s degree) in the areas stated above in combination with an additional two years of qualifying experience will be given due consideration in lieu of the advanced university degree.
Experience:
Min. years of relevant Work experience
- Minimum of 2 years’ (with master’s degree) or 4 years (with bachelor’s degree) of experience at the national or international level in public relations, communications or advocacy.
- Experience in digital marketing and managing social media platforms;
- Experience in creating multimedia content and working with web-based management systems.
Desirable Skills
- Demonstrated strong professional working capacity to use the information and communications technology, specifically including website design and desktop publishing software is desired.
- Previous experience in developing and implementing communications strategies for organizations or projects is an asset.
- Experience in creating and updating style guidelines for print and digital materials is desired.
Required Langues(s) (at Working level)
- Fluency in English (written and spoken) is required.
