Background

Diversity, Equity and Inclusion are core principles at UNDP:  we value diversity as an expression of the multiplicity of nations and cultures where we operate, we foster inclusion as a way of ensuring all personnel are empowered to contribute to our mission, and we ensure equity and fairness in all our actions. Taking a ‘leave no one behind’ approach to our diversity efforts means increasing representation of underserved populations. People who identify as belonging to marginalized or excluded populations are strongly encouraged to apply. Learn more about working at UNDP including our values and inspiring stories.

UNDP Bhutan, in partnership with the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport (MoIT), is currently implementing a project titled “Enhancing Climate Resilience of Urban Landscapes in Thimphu and Paro Region (ECRUL)”. The project supports the Royal Government of Bhutan in addressing increasing climate risks in urban areas, particularly flooding, landslides, water stress, and ecosystem degradation. Rapid urbanization in cities such as Thimphu and Paro, combined with more intense rainfall and growing climate variability, has significantly increased the vulnerability of urban infrastructure, communities, and natural systems.

The project aims to strengthen urban climate resilience through the integration of climate risk–informed planning, nature-based solutions (NbS), and climate-resilient urban infrastructure. ECRUL focuses on improving institutional and urban planning frameworks, piloting and scaling innovative NbS and hybrid solutions, and strengthening monitoring, knowledge management, gender mainstreaming, and learning to enable replication at the national level.

The Project Management Unit (PMU) is housed within the Department of Human Settlement (DHS), MoIT, with UNDP Bhutan providing technical and operational support to ensure effective project implementation.
