Background
The United Nations (UN) Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) is the UN Secretariat department responsible for bringing together humanitarian actors to ensure a coherent response to complex emergencies and natural disasters. OCHA also ensures that there is a framework within which each actor can contribute to the overall response effort.
OCHA Sudan addresses and facilitates issues relating to coordination, communications, and humanitarian financing, and serves the entire humanitarian community. In doing this, OCHA works with the Sudanese Government's Humanitarian Aid Commission (HAC) and other government counterparts. OCHA provides support to the Humanitarian Coordinator (HC) and the Humanitarian Country Team (HCT) in Sudan. Working with the entire humanitarian community, OCHA looks to foster a conducive operating environment that facilitates the effective delivery of humanitarian assistance (both material assistance and protection assistance). Crucially, OCHA promotes compliance with humanitarian principles in the humanitarian response. This is an essential element of effective humanitarian coordination and is central to establishing and maintaining access to affected populations, particularly in conflict-affected areas of Sudan.
Duties and Responsibilities
Under direct supervision of the information management head of unit, the Graphic Designer is expected to perform the following tasks:
- Produce high quality Info graphics for the OCHA Sudan office
- Develop standard static and interactive information products with enhanced visual aids.
- Design all OCHA outputs in line with global standard
- Provide training to OCHA country office and field staff on graphic design and better communication materials.
- Contribute to web content development.
- Support web design and improve the visibility and presentation of the maps of OCHA Sudan in line with the general mapping standard
- Prepare maps, graphs and charts required for reporting
- Willingness to be flexible and work in a team environment
- Other relevant duties as requested

Work implies frequent interaction with the following:

- All OCHA Sudan visual outputs aligned with global branding and design standards
- Enhanced staff capacity in graphic design and visual communication, leading to higher‑quality communication materials produced at field and country levels
Required Skills and Experience
Education:
- Secondary education. Certification in graphics developments, information technology or related areas with a combination of seven (7) years of relevant experience is required.
- A University (bachelor's degree) Degree in information technology or a related field with a combination of four years of relevant experience would be desirable, but it is not a requirement.
Experience:
- Seven (7) years of relevant experience in humanitarian work, emergency preparedness, crisis/emergency relief management, or a related area.is required.
- Excellent knowledge of Graphic Software (adobe family, Coral draw, Power BI, GIS etc.) is required
- Demonstrated practical knowledge of database development and implementation in a humanitarian context
- Experience in the usage of computers and office software packages (MS Word, Excel, power BI, content modules, adobe suites etc.)
- Previous successful information management experience
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
- Ability to work in a challenging, time sensitive, rapidly changing environment
- Ability to work closely with an international team in a dynamic setting.
Language:
- Fluency in written and spoken Arabic and English Languages is required.
- Working knowledge of other UN language is desirable
