Background
The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) is the UN’s global development network, working in 170 countries and territories to help people build better lives and resilient nations. UNDP partners with governments and communities to address global and national development challenges by connecting them to knowledge, experience and resources.
Within UNDP, the Bureau for Policy and Programme Support (BPPS) provides policy and programme guidance and supports the implementation of UNDP’s Strategic Plan, 2026–2029, which is structured around four strategic objectives: prosperity for all, effective governance, crisis resilience, and a healthy planet. These objectives are powered by three accelerators — digital and AI transformation, gender equality, and sustainable finance — and are underpinned by a commitment to human rights and to leaving no one behind.
UNDP supports health outcomes by addressing the social, cultural and economic determinants of HIV and health, reducing inequalities, strengthening inclusive governance for health, and building resilient and sustainable health systems. UNDP also plays a convening and coordinating role, bringing together national and international partners and resources.
