The Berghof Foundation is an independent, non-profit organisation supporting people in conflict in their efforts to achieve sustainable peace through conflict transformation and peacebuilding. Headquartered in Berlin, the NGO is run by a diverse team and works with local partners around the world.

 

The organisation has doubled in size over the past five years and has recently decided to invest in communications as part of its further growth strategy. We are now looking as soon as possible for an experienced and motivated Media and Communications Manager to join the team and build up the area of media and public relations in order to increase the organisation’s visibility and impact.

 

Overview 

Hours:                 Full-time (40 hours per week)

Your areas of responsibility:

  • With a focus on the Berghof Foundation’s 50th anniversary in 2021, ensure timely and clear communication of the organisation’s activities, impact, positions and messaging to external audiences
  • Develop media strategies and communications plans for global and regional/thematic work
  • Write and edit content for the media, print and the website, including press releases, web features, opinion pieces, publications, blog posts, marketing material 
  • Build relationships with key German and international media outlets and handle interview requests
  • Contribute to the planning of major in-house and external events 
  • Identify opportunities to reach new and existing audiences
  • Plan launches of key publications and provide support for the publications process
  • Ensure professional and necessary standards in design, tone and method of communications
  • Provide communications training to staff and support spokespeople in the preparation of interviews and speeches 

 

Your knowledge, experience and skills:

  • University degree in communications, political science, journalism, international affairs or other relevant fields
  • 5+ years of professional experience in communications in an international or media organisation
  • Excellent communications skills in both English and German (to native speaker standard) required
  • Knowledge of the German as well as international media market and demonstrated experience in media relations essential
  • Excellent writing and editing skills, with a thorough eye for detail and a creative approach to communications essential 
  • Ability to turn complex issues into persuasive communications
  • Experience in developing advocacy and public campaigns as well as marketing materials and videos an asset
  • Dynamic self-starter; highly motivated, organised, flexible, comfortable in taking initiative and able to work with minimum supervision as well as part of a team
  • High level of intercultural competence, diplomacy and political sensitivity
  • Knowledge of and considerable interest in peace and conflict issues and international affairs
