Background
he United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) is the global development network of the United Nations system, operating on the ground in 177 countries. The Bureau for Management Services (BMS) within UNDP is responsible for the development of corporate strategies, policies, tools, and systems across key cross-cutting management areas. Leveraging sound analytics and adopting a risk management approach, BMS supports the achievement of development results through strategic management advice, innovative business solutions, and corporate services aligned with international best practices and the evolving needs and expectations of development partners.
Under the Bureau for Management Services (BMS), the Information & Technology Management (ITM) Division, in alignment with the UNDP IT and Digital Strategies, drives the organization's digital transformation by developing and managing corporate technology platforms and services to UNDP and several UN entities. ITM delivers ICT and Smart Facilities solutions globally to UNDP Country Offices and UN partners.
This assignment, positioned within the ITM Directorate, focuses on strengthening internal and external communication efforts and supporting the rollout of global projects and IT initiatives, as well as supporting coordination and delivery of joint communication efforts for the Bureau for Management Services to UNDP and the UN entities we serve.
Scope of Work:
Within the delegated authority and under the supervision of the Communication & Change Specialist or his/her designated mandated representative(s), the Communications Analyst – Projects & Client Support will provide support to ITM and the BMS Directorate, as required.
Duties and Responsibilities
Support strategic communications and client relationship management:
- Provide strategic, user-centric communications support for clients facing digital initiatives across ITM service areas (AI, cybersecurity, data and system updates, etc.).
- Coordinate with ITM subject matter experts and relevant business owners on the development and implementation of communication and brand strategies that strengthen communication and engagement with clients.
- Develop communication materials for system and strategy progress related to ITM services and corporate platforms, with a focus on clarity and relevance, to improve understanding of ITM services and how these support operational and programmatic objectives.
Provide communications support for key ICT Projects & Service Offerings:
- Track and monitor ITM’s project pipeline and change release processes and coordinate with project leads to ensure effective and timely communications across the project lifecycle.
- Develop and distribute project focused communication content (briefs, project updates, decks, and Internal/external) communications tailored to relevant stakeholders and user communities.
- Support One BMS efforts on coordinated and consistent messaging of UNDP’s operational offering to UN partner entities such as Quantum ERP and smart infrastructure/green energy solutions, in support of UN80 and UN reform objectives.
- Provide end-to-end communications support for internal AI initiatives, including messaging, awareness materials, storytelling, and internal promotion, to help build an AI-native ITM and UNDP.
- Support cybersecurity and data privacy awareness through the development of clear, engaging communication materials and campaigns aligned with UNDP’s cybersecurity and data policies and strategies.
Coordinate Internal Communications & Staff Culture/Engagement initiatives:
- Support coordination and lead content development for ITM inclusion and staff engagement initiatives to improve cross-unit collaboration, increase staff morale and promote staff well-being.
- Coordinate internal communications related to ITM People and Culture initiatives/roadmap (ITM Town Halls, monthly stand up meetings, speak-up/feedback sessions, people manager/ethics training, etc.)
Monitor and report progress in implementing communication activities and achieving the targets set:
- Effectively manage pipeline of activities, as defined in the ITM Communications workplan supporting the implementation of the UNDP IT Strategy, and regularly report on progress (reach, engagement, etc.) against timelines and defined KPIs.
Facilitate knowledge management and dissemination:
- Provide support to Identify and synthesize best practices and lessons learned directly linked to operational activities and strategic goals.
- Contribute to knowledge networks and communities of practice including corporate communications repositories and networks.
- Assist in providing training for UNDP personnel on internal and external communications and branding.
The incumbent performs other duties within their functional profile as deemed necessary for the efficient functioning of the Office and the Organization.

Required Skills and Experience
Education:
- Advanced university degree (master’s degree or equivalent) in Communications, Media Studies, Digital Communications, or equivalent is required. Or
- A first-level university degree (bachelor’s degree) in the areas stated above, in combination with an additional two years of qualifying experience will be given due consideration in lieu of the advanced university degree.
Experience:
- Minimum of 2 years with (with master’s degree) or 4 years (with bachelor’s degree) of relevant professional experience in internal/external, communication, marketing, or related roles, or other relevant programmes.
Desired skills:
- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing; skilled in drafting, formulating, and preparing detailed reports.
- Demonstrated experience in accuracy and professionalism in user-centric, content production, multimedia design and document editing.
- Experience in developing and implementing internal and external communication and stakeholder engagement strategies in a multi-stakeholder environment.
- Experience in front-end web development in line with industry’s best practices with a strong understanding of Content Management Systems, e.g. Drupal and UX principles.
- Experience in project and change management, specifically digital transformation initiatives, desirable.
- Experience working in the UN and/or international organization
Required Language(s):
- Fluency in English is required.
- Working knowledge of another UN language is desirable
