Background Information - Job-specific

In close cooperation with the Communications Group and other departments of UNOPS, the video and sound editor will provide high-quality video and audio editing services for both external and internal corporate communications products.
The video and sound editor should demonstrate a client-oriented approach, with a high level of creativity along with the ability to weave together strong narratives and produce engaging video and audio stories. The video and sound editor ensures the effective and efficient provision of services, full confidentiality in all aspects of the assignment, and the timely follow-up on deadlines and commitments made.

Functional Responsibilities

  • To promote UNOPS corporate priorities and its mission to help people build better lives through the provision of high-quality video and audio editing services.
  • To provide editing support for video and podcast products that help tell stories about UNOPS and its work both externally and internally, and for a variety of platforms and audiences.
  • Create motion graphics and animations to help convey messages, particularly in cases where high-quality footage may not be available.
  • Work closely with UNOPS teams to develop scripts for videos and podcasts.
  • Follow UN ethics guidelines with regard to respecting the dignity and human rights of all individuals portrayed in videos.
  • Follow branding guidelines to ensure video products are reflective of the fonts, colours, logo positioning and overall style of UNOPS visual products.
  • Provide sound editing for videos and podcasts, ensuring that music, voice tracks and sound effects are mixed and levelled.
  • Implement changes based on feedback from UNOPS teams.
  • Create different language versions of video products using translations provided by UNOPS.
  • Ensure timely delivery of final edited video and audio products, including separate subtitle files for English versions and provide all project files (compatible with Adobe Creative Suite) and assets no later than 6 days after completion of the project.
  • Provide all necessary editing equipment and software to perform assignments.
Specific requirements
Final edited videos and podcasts along with relevant project files and assets will be shared via Google Drive.

Education/Experience/Language requirements

Education:
  • A first-level university degree in communications, broadcast journalism, media studies or a related field is an asset
  • An advanced university degree in a relevant field may be accepted and can compensate for certain years of experience.
  • Formal training in video and sound editing is an asset
Experience:
  • Three years of accumulated work experience in editing video and sound
  • Experience working with advanced video and audio editing software
  • Ability to work with simple animation and motion graphics
  • Experience producing both short- (social media) and long-form videos
  • Experience producing podcasts or similar audio-based products is an advantage
  • Experience editing 360 videos is an advantage
  • Experience working with humanitarian organizations in an advantage.
Language Requirements:
  • Fluency in oral and written English is required.
  • Knowledge of another official UN language is an advantage.
