Eligibility criteria

Minimum age: 25 years old. Nationals of the country of assignment are not eligible, except the assignments in Headquarters duty stations.

Description of task

Under the direct supervision of the Chief Transport Officer (CTO) and Regional Transport Officer, the UN Volunteer “Transport Assistant “will undertake the following Fleet Vehicle Inventory duties:

  • Redistribute transport assets meet variations in demand, ensuring maximum economy and efficiency at all times, as directed by CTO and Regional Transport Officer. Keep evidence and monitors the of assets;

  • Maintain vehicle and transport equipment inventory records for both United Nations Owned Equipment (UNOE) and Contingent Owned Equipment (COE).

  • Assist in the Bi-annual physical inventory of non-expendable transport assets in accordance with the established procedures and deadlines;

  • Assist Fleet Manager in preparation of the Mission Vehicle Establishment Committee (VEC) meetings;

  • Assist Fleet manager on issues related to life management of the UN-owned vehicle fleet and implementation of the Vehicle Replacement Policy;

  • Ensures that vehicle write-off cases ;

  • Coordinate with logistic supply chain management on vehicle inventory issues;

  • Coordinate with MOVCON for urgent delivery of Transport shipments by air, land or internal waterways;

  • Assist in the provision of inputs for reports on transport fleet and composition;

  • Assist in ensuring the constant availability of vehicles for assignments in support of one-off and emergency tasks as directed by the CTO;

  • As directed by the Fleet Manager, issue official registration (license) plate numbers to vehicles and trailers brought into the area of operation, including all UN-owned , contingent-owned vehicles, vehicles leased/ rented by the Mission, vehicles provided by the host Government and provided by any other source for the exclusive use of the Mission;

  • Maintain license plate number database;

  • Assist in the Driving Test and Driving Permit Unit:

  • Keep evidence and advise the Fleet on COE vehicles matters;

  • Assist in performing other related duties as required.

Qualifications/Requirements Required degree level: Technical/Vocational diploma Education - Additional Comments:

Transport and Logistics related diploma. Technical or Vocational Certificate in Logistic and Transport or other relevant fields is desirable. A valid driver’s license is required. Experience in Familiarity with United Nations systems and procedures in the field is desirable. Working within DPKO, Police or Military background is desirable.

Required experience: 60 Months Experience remark:

A minimum of 5 years of progressively responsible experience in motor vehicle transport operations, vehicle fleet management or related area.

Language skills:
  • English(Mandatory), Level - Fluent
  • French(Optional), Level - Working Knowledge
Area of expertise: Vehicle and fleet operation and maintenance, Other transport related experience Area of expertise details:
  • A minimum of 5 years of progressively responsible experience in motor vehicle transport operations, vehicle fleet management or related area.

  • Transport Logistics working experience with UN DPKO missions to include Military Component or Civilian Police.

  • Experience in international operations in a post conflict environment is desirable.

  • Knowledge in Microsoft excel, word and outlook
