Tiered Approach

In line with the commitment to safeguard capacity and support personnel already in the Organization, a majority of UNDP UNCDF/UNV vacancies are advertised using a tiered application process whereby:

III. INTERNSHIP OFFICE BACKGROUND: 

The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in the Programme of Assistance to the Palestinian People (PAPP) works in partnership with the Palestinian Authority, local and international partners to strengthen socio-economic resilience of the Palestinian people, including greater self-reliance, enhance ownership and leadership, and a cohesive identity. PAPP supports key sectors including democratic governance & quality services, inclusive economic opportunities, and sustainable natural resources management.

In line with its ongoing efforts, UNDP/PAPP is seeking an intern to support its Senior Management in key administrative and strategic activities aimed at improving organizational performance, strengthening partnerships, and advancing the UNDP mandate in Palestine. This position will offer valuable insight into development cooperation, project management, and the operational dynamics of UNDP in Palestine.

Duties and Responsibilities

The primary objective of this internship is to support Senior Management in the effective planning, implementation, and monitoring of development programs, and to assist in the overall management of the PAPP office’s daily operations:

1) Support in Strategic Planning, Research and Analysis: 40%

  • Assist with the preparation, review, and tracking of strategic plans, work plans, and program initiatives, in line with UNDP/PAPP’s objectives. 
  • Conduct background research, gather data, and prepare briefs and presentations for Senior Management on context and trends.

2)Project Support, Documentation and Internal Reporting: 35%

  • Support in day-to-day implementation of projects, helping to monitor and reporting project progress, identifying challenges & solutions.
  • Support the preparation of donor brochures and other internal reporting, etc. 

3)Support in Internal Comms & Coordination & Admin: 25%

  • Assist in drafting of communications materials, including internal memos, and internalnewsletters to enhance internal communications and info-sharing. 
  • Help organize & coordinate meetings, workshops, including preparing agendas, minutes & action points.
  • Support admin/other activities as seen relevant and needed

  •  Good analytical skills in gathering and consolidating data and research for practical implementation; with the ability to synthesize complex information and present it clearly.

  • Communicate effectively when working in teams and independently.
  • Good in organizing and structuring various tasks and responsibilities; & time management skills
  • Displays cultural, gender, religion, race, nationality and age sensitivity and adaptability.
  • Prior experience in the occupied Palestinian territory (oPt) or Middle East & North Africa region, is an asset but not mandatory. 
  • Responds positively to feedback and differing points of view.
  • Willingness to learn, adapt and take on new challenges. 
  • Consistently approaches work with energy and a positive, constructive attitude.

High levels of professionalism and discretion. 

Required Skills and Experience

Education: Field of study: International Relations, Development Studies, Political Science, Public Administration or equivalent. 

Candidates must meet one of the following educational requirements:

  • currently in the final year of a Bachelor’s degree; or
  • currently enrolled in a Master’s degree; or
  • have graduated no longer than 1 year ago from a bachelor’s or master’s degree or equivalent studies.

Field of study: International Relations, Development Studies, Political Science, Public Administration or equivalent. 

IT skills:

  • Knowledge and a proficient user of Microsoft Office productivity tools.
  • Familiarity with digital tools and communication platforms.

Languages:

  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills in English is required.
  • Knowledge of other UN languages is an advantage. (Arabic is a plus). 

INTERNSHIP CONDITIONS

The intern will be supervised by the Strategic Coordination & Liaison Officer within the UNDP/PAPP office, who will provide ongoing guidance, feedback, and mentorship throughout the internship period. Regular check-ins will be scheduled to discuss progress and professional development. 

  • UNDP will not pay internships but will provide a stipend in the amount of NIS 3,523 monthly in accordance with the provisions of the UNDP internship policy; all other expenses connected with it will be borne by me or my sponsoring Government or institution.
  • UNDP accepts no responsibility for costs arising from accidents and/or illness or death incurred during the internship.
  • Interns are responsible for obtaining necessary visas and arranging travel to and from the duty station where the internship will be performed.
  • Interns are not eligible to apply for, or be appointed to, any post in UNDP during the period of the internship.
  • Interns must provide proof of enrolment in health insurance plans.
  • Interns are not staff members and may not represent UNDP in any official capacity.
  • Interns are expected to work full-time, but flexibility is allowed for education programmes;
  • Interns need to obtain financing for subsistence and make own arrangements for internship, travel, VISA, accommodation, etc.
